I thought it would be useful to have a thread focused on the media coverage on the anniversary of the ruling. I am glad it's back in the spotlight, and I hope Bridget Phillipson is feeling the pressure today for her woeful lack of leadership.

Baroness Falker and Claire Coutinho on Good Morning Britain:

The presenters are, predictably, fixated on toilets and what a tw who transitioned 50 years and who has had "all the surgery" will do. No questions from them about rape crisis centres or prisons.

The a good Law Project, telling some fairly outrageous fibs:

"It’s been a year since the Supreme Court's decision that accelerated the rollback of trans rights in the UK. It’s been a difficult year, but it’s also been a year of coming together and fighting back.

And it’s working. Our people power just forced the government to admit the EHRC’s transphobic draft guidance got it wrong, and they’ve had to send it back to the drawing board".

Just a reminder that there was a thread the other day abour an 11.30 Parliament Square photo. Sorry can't link.

SwirlyGates · 16/04/2026 11:15

The presenters are, predictably, fixated on toilets and what a tw who transitioned 50 years and who has had "all the surgery" will do.

They also never address this issue honestly. If this hypothetical TW actually passes, there will be no issue, will there? At least when out in public with strangers, who don't already know he's trans, he can use the women's facilities and won't upset the women and won't get challenged. The problem is that people can actually tell the difference between men and women, even after surgery and hormones.

The batshit Kate Nevins, at a hustings I went to recently, told the "sad story" of a transman she met who was anxious about toilets as she now had nowhere to go, since she would scare the women in women's toilets. Again, I thought, if this person really looks like a man, no-one in the men's toilets will know, right? Less charitably, I thought, FAFO. If you other yourself, it has consequences for how far society will accept you.

They think it's a gotcha and that it throws doubt on how we, as a society,.can possibly have single sex spaces. I sigh every time I hear a presenter make that argument.

Just watched this from Sky News app and felt it was very trans, trans, trans for the first few minutes. And how they’ve been inconvenienced by the delay. It gets better later on but that relies on people who can be bothered to watch an 8 minute video.

It also spectacularly fails to lay out the issues clearly:-

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/04/2026 16:23

Shelagh Fogarty on LBC just interviewed Susan Smith of FWS. Great interview, Shelagh is one of the few unashamedly sex realist radio presenters, and she's done her research.
Listen again (from just after 3pm) on the LBC app.

So (from 5:19 onward) Baroness Falkner seems to be suggesting that all service providers should provide a gender neutral option (which, in the case of toilets, might be an existing accessible toilet? unclear).
If they don't, then a trans-identified person could use the facility they feel most comfortable with (though they don't have a right to do this, if it's the opposite sex option) and then take the provider to court.
So, I think the people who might be the most unhappy with the new guidance (apart from the men who want to be in the Ladies) are those who currently use accessible facilities. Which is something we always suspected. We will have to wait and see.

Actually, I'm not sure what that means. But you know, quilting is good.

Re Trans Unity Quilt

Quilting is good.

If men want to quilt, great. If "queer" people want to quilt, great. If you are a woman who has decided you can't deal with society's misogyny and so you need to call yourself male now and you want to quilt, knock yourself out. If any adult who has decided that they believe they have a gendered soul, and wants to "present" as the opposite sex, wants to quilt, fine, have at it.

All I require is for males of whatever presentation to stay out of female single sex spaces, and so does the law.

Perhaps do your quilting in a mixed-sex space? I promise you, quilts do not discriminate.

a memory of an experience of gender euphoria

MaryCate Delvey has a fantastic video on X which is relevant for the theme of gender euphoria. The end result may need an age rating but it could help anyone who is struggling for an idea.

Will post the link to her video below.

Content warning ⬆️... although don't worry, it's just MaryCate reading out posts from transpeople who write about their experiences on public forums.

Do you know, Knotty, I don't even bother looking for journalism on the BBC anymore. Like politicians, they just lie anyway, so what is the point?

Very defeatest, I know.

Yes its been reported on by the BBC but just in terms of the Bridget PHillipson statement. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn08849wz07o

Over all what is depressing is given what as I understand it, was a large number of sucessful demonstrations this was not reported.

This erasing of GC feminist activism means that many of these news reports have no context.

Minister for Women and Equalities Bridget Phillipson speaking in Parliament

Single-sex space guidance to be published after May elections

Equalities minister Bridget Phillipson says election rules mean a new draft cannot be published until next month.

From having looked myself for articles, online news, most lead from the perspective of it being an attack on trans rights.

Not a surprise really. Sad

Here's another one totally ignoring women's rights and saying it is nothing more than an attack on trans rights.

https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/women-supporting-trans-people-not-in-our-name-petition-b2958833.html

and at https://archive.is/kSYaI

However, if you read this article and the NION petition itself, it's all 'trans people are our siblings'...blah, blah, blah. There are vague references to various protests but not a single, specific practical demand that they would like enacted.Where does it say we want 'trans people' to be able to use opposite sex facilities unimpeded? We want 'trans women' in female sports? We want 'trans women' in female prisons. We want 'trans girls' to share tents with girl guides?
They either don't actually want any of it and it is just an exercise in student-politics virtue-signalling or they do want those things but know that they look really, really bad when you commit them to paper.

Either way, it is pretty thin gruel for their 'trans siblings'.

soupycustard · 16/04/2026 21:49

Sick to the back teeth of these thoughtless simpering idiots. They're like turkeys voting for Christmas.

Exactly this. I never get an answer to my oft-repeated question of: what rights are trans people lacking?
I wish they'd have the moral bloody backbone to be honest.

It's always so interesting to see how much trans is about the self and womanhood is typically portrayed about being for others.
