Do all left-of-centre councils plan to defy the Supreme Court ruling?

The unholy alliance of Labour, LibDem and Green really don't want women to have any rights to our own spaces. You'd have thought Darlington might have learned a lesson from the recent Employment Tribunbal judgment.

This is another reason why we need Phillipson to publish the guidance. In fact it’s long overdue.

I’m also sick of this topic being used as a left - right political football; politicians on both sides pushing this.

tobee · 29/03/2026 13:11

And yes it’s very concerning that it might be that they do plan to to answer your question.

There's a straightforward statement there that women's privacy, dignity and safety is 'anti trans'. The real and actual needs of entire female half of the population should be sacrificed to a man with gender who claims feeling 'unsafe'. Whatever that means. And Philipson agrees which is why she's sitting on the guidance, and we do yes, have a political left that now regards law, even the supreme court, in about the same way that most people regard a tiktok influencer.

Absolutely barking. And scary in terms of the utter disrespect for law and democracy and the equality of women that is now quite openly on the table. The worrying thing is that the next govt may well end up a coalition of these raving maniacs. And it's not like there's any party doing anything to stand up to it.

I'm in Wales, now facing the frightening prospect that a similar coalition may well be in power after the May election for the Senedd. The LibDems won't feature, but in their place would be the similarly captured Plaid Cymru, who, with Reform are at present topping the polls.

I'm in Wales too and absolutely fearing the worst. Labour, Plaid, and Greens are entirely closed to any discussion beyond the TWAW/TMAM/NBAV mantra and resolute in stating that any disagreement is transphobic. Given our new PR system it seems very likely that an anti-women coalition will triumph, and Reform's 'support' for the biological defn of women will actually be used to tar us all with the same 'right-wing bigot' cobblers. It's as if the Supreme Court decision didn't actually happen.

Highly likely that Norwich City Council about to get a Green majority. People should be very worried; will become a basket case of a council like Bristol.

OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?! Yes, I did intend to shout.

Even if the Tories and Reform were using this as a political football, all they were asking for is for the law to be followed.

It would have been easy for the other three parties to say they don't agree with the tactics or the policy but this is the law and they have to adhere to it. No-one would have noticed or cared.

By rejecting it they've turned this into a political football.

SwirlyGates · 29/03/2026 17:00

I'm wondering, are there any other laws which our elected representatives vote to break, en masse?

Do they vote to embezzle public funds? Or to steal their coffee break jaffa cakes from the nearest shop? Or to assault anyone who disagrees with them? Is it just women's rights where they feel free to ignore the law?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 29/03/2026 18:13

I'm in Wales too, I share the concerns of posters up stream. PC are still putting motions forward to allow children to be put on PB's, their last attempt didn't get anywhere fortunately but all of the PC MS's voted for it.

If they replace Labour as the party in power they'll have enough vote's to push it through. My understanding is at the moment children who have been gender addled go to England for experimentation, if PC get in that could always change.
Scary days.

It is certainly a real possibility. Look what the Greens did in Bristol:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5455053-bristol-council-is-about-to-be-sued?

If you have a vote in local elections use it, but there is more to do than that.

We can try to warn people. They might not listen, but if we sow seeds that pays back later. No one was listening about sports etc years back. Make sure everyone knows the Greens and others will probably spend a tonne of money on trying to crush women.

A lot of frustrated people here. I get that. Now is the time not to despair, but to get angry.

It is about more than just an individual vote. Even if you plan to spoil your ballot now is the time to explain why and speak up.

Now is the maximum time individuals can make an impact on politicians and on other voters.

Quiz all the candidates. Ask the awkward questions. For multiple reasons

1 - even if they are in a party with issues individual candidates can be better and be rebels.
2 - It shows that people care about women's issues. It puts them on the spot.
3 - It can peak people long term.
4 -Get them on record. If they think women are not worth worrying about people need to know about it. If they are going to do what Greens did in Doncaster and Bristol people need to be warned.
5 - Make sure they know that even though they think women are not important the courts do not agree and we have lawyers that can make them suffer. Tell Greens, Lib Dem, Labour candidates that they will be sued all the time they try to claim women are not real. Lots of politicians have started to fear women who won't be silent. Make enough fuss and they will stop trying. Remember many of these people don't really care about "trans" ideas they are only doing it because TAs seem powerful.

If candidates are dumb, hateful or avoid you tell people here, on X, anywhere. Write to press local and national. Speak up. You are WAY more likely to be heard NOW than after the elections.

Even better if you can go to hustings and ask questions live.

Also in the run up to May elections it is a great time to protest. Get together with others make your voice heard. Put out stickers. Do anything.

Shades of Trumpism. He doesn't give a fig for the law either. We have been warned now and told to get back in our box. At least Trump did something about this issue, albeit for votes, but don't they all do that?

It's still very scary out there for women of the biological variety. Phillipson makes me very angry TBH.

Kucinghitam · 29/03/2026 21:02

I've been spoiling my ballot for so many elections now because I'm politically homeless. I'm left-of-centre (the old meaning, not the new), broadly pro-immigration (would be hypocritical otherwise), pro-EU, socially liberal (the old meaning), etc.

But with this coalition-of-the-batshit looming everywhere, I'm going to have to actually cast a vote from now on... Who the chuff can I vote for?
