This just came up on my feed- can't see another thread on this at the moment.

Wasn't aware of how the situation might be in Jersey- and difference re school guidance.

Only had a quick peruse so far as off to work, but thought this would be interesting to look at.

Thanks BeKind. Disappointed that yet another group care so little about safeguarding children though I imagine here these deputies probably know any trans kids’ parents/aunts/uncles/neighbours effectively multiplying the problem. It’s a crown dependency, does Westminster have sway?

Girls become nothing when boys have 'needs'. And it will only be about the boys in reality. It is really troubling how many apparently otherwise intelligent adults view girls' bodies as something that boys have an entitlement to, with the girls entirely depersoned. I wonder if they'd all think the right to marital rape should have stayed in law.

Do people recall that huge child abuse scandal involving decades of abuse at children's homes on Jersey?

Jerseynotcowed · 26/03/2026 10:29

Jersey is currently swimming against the tide of current thinking, as Deputy Bailhache said in his closing remarks during the debate yesterday.

Women’s Rights Network Jersey has been pushing to get a common sense schools guidance in place for several years now. The proposition may have failed but we won’t stop pushing. Get in touch if you’re in Jersey and want to get involved. (WRNJersey on FB and X)

Yes, certainly.
As a place full of rich business dealers it is also no doubt a men’s rights haven, as well as good for paedophiles.

Doesn’t U.K. schools guidance reach them? In what other ways then are children in Jersey not protected?

Jersey is self governing. It is not subject to UK laws and regulations on domestic affairs, including the equality act and schools guidance, nor to the UK Supreme Court.

Thank you for answering.

In many ways it seems untrustworthy, rather dangerous place where bad people could get a lot of control without any impediment.

You're not wrong. But I think the same has been very true in the UK too. They have their own checks and balances just as the UK does, they've failed some times, but the UK's have too. Don't know if it's possible to say which is worse, really.

Jersey is self-governing But ….

Jersey follows UK law in many respects. In terms of the UK Supreme Court ruling, the analysis which has been agreed by the Attorney General is that because so much of Jersey’s law was « borrowed » (verbatim) from the UK it also applies in Jersey. See this article in the Jersey and Guernsey Law Review from June 2025: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ykX5MkU1S73PWcsyIshhupbSbznVIBJL/view?usp=drivesdk

The fact that this makes part of the current schools guidance - boys being allowed into girls’ single-ses facilities in school - unlawful was repeated several times in the debate.

Yep. And because it’s a small island it’s especially hard/scary to put your head above the parapet. But there are brave women (and a few notable men like Deputy Bailhache) doing it, and what’s going on in the UK does help!

ScrollingLeaves · 28/03/2026 07:15

It’s great you are on here letting us know what’s going on there.

Can really imagine that!

Bravery indeed to go against the primal survival imperative to conform - especially in a small, island community.

I admire and hope for you who do.
