Mutton Dressed As Lamb

"Known as the Mutton March, it was part of a grassroots movement dedicated to championing female confidence, by challenging ageist and sexist tropes regarding how women ‘should’ dress."

London’s first mutton march saw 100 women celebrate being ‘too much’

I've not heard of this before, I say good on them, as an oldie who wears what she wants, because at my age I've got 0F2G, it's time ageism was brought to the fore. 😂

(It didn't mention whether it was 'inclusive' but if it's not and it takes off then expect it to be hijacked as well).

Had to google 0F2G. 😂 I’m the same. Just turned 50, wear the hell what I want. Clothes shopping in places I probably shouldn’t be at my age. Don’t care. If it fits and it looks nice I’ll wear it. I’m always overdressed for pretty much everything. I refuse to buy a nice/posh dress have it sitting in the wardrobe waiting for a special occasion. I’ll wear it to the pub!

I’ve just googled and all I get is Office Furniture To Go.
Are you wearing a swivel chair OP?!

CleanSkin · 23/03/2026 08:13

So did I, @50NotFat!
however my aging brain kicked in & twigged that it is Zero Fxxks To Give.
I’m proud of having worked that out.

eta - fully agree, OP

That's the daftest thing. It doesn't even really seem to be about ageism. Those people aren't dressing 'young for their age'; they are dressing extravagantly. And who cares? It isn't a feminist issue. If anything, women have more licence to dress like that than men do (unless they become drag queens).

Today I'm casually wearing a filing cabinet. 😂

(sorry for the confusion I caused with the acronym, it does indeed mean zero fucks to give)

I posted it because it was daft, lighten up, it's women making a statement about the flack women of a certain age get, so it is a women's issue, it's also light hearted.

Ah! I get it now.

I agree, the best bit of maturity is that you no longer prioritise appeasing the fashion police or indeed pandering to the male gaze.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2026 08:59

These women aren’t lambs or old ewes following the herd, they’re goats!Grin

Also, if you read the piece, it’s not just about women dressing extravagantly, it’s also about women pushing back about being told how they should behave - one woman who was habitually a quiet type being told off by a stranger for not appearing to enjoy an event for instance. Akin to the intrusive ‘smile love it may never happen’ type of thing.Hmm

As someone who’s not long turned 50 and will wear a Hello Kitty T-shirt with a leopard print miniskirt (sort of thing I’ve worn since my teens, only the sizes have changed) I wholeheartedly support this sentiment.

I am suspicious of the colouring of those placards though. Blue, pink and white...

And it was in the Metro, maybe it's not what it seems, they're so much lying going on nowadays, it's hard to know what's true anymore. 🤷‍♀️

I can’t open the article and I take the point that it’s a light hearted thread. However, as a 69 year-old woman who loves clothes and who has little truck with age related style advice, I can’t say I’m interested in reclaiming a saying that compares women, old and young, to cuts of meat.

MissDixieVoom · 24/03/2026 18:18

I love mutton. And lamb. And goat.

I have properly missed the point. And I’m now I’m looking for local suppliers.

BillieWiper · 24/03/2026 18:21

It's a bit of a shame such things have to exist. The whole concept of comparing women to various ages of livestock seems a bit depressing.

But I guess if it's for a laugh and for charity or whatever then fair enough.

It just goes without saying that both sexes of any age should wear whatever they like as long as it fits reasonably and doesn't literally expose your dick or minge?!
