Women's Rights Network Red Flowers Campaign raising awareness for women and girls in Afghanistan

CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES TODAY

Red Flowers for Afghan women and girls. Beauty and hope from a stony ground.

Every spring, wild red tulips transform even the most barren of Afghan landscapes into a riot of colour, heralding Nowruz, the Persian new year, and symbolising sacrifice and the beauty and renewal of life.

In Afghanistan, Gul-e-Surkh, the Red Flower Festival, lasts around 40 days while the flowers bloom.

This year, WRN is using the red tulip to symbolise the hopes of Afghan women and girls as they struggle for life under the barren oppression of the Taliban regime.

Expect to see WRN women at street stall and events, handing out red tulips – and the beautiful words of Afghan women and girls.

A huge thank you to Kate Clanchy for her support.

We even have mugs and t-shirts!

We’ll be highlighting the impact of Taliban oppression and persecution on Afghan women and girls throughout this campaign, which will run for the next 40 days.

And we’ll be sharing campaign pics and clips too.

This is a lovely idea. I know I feel heartbroken when I read about women and girls in Afghanistan and I also feel helpless. This will raise some much needed awareness. I see from the Women's Rights Network website that they work with Victory Afghanistan, so good to know some girls and women are learning English.it is always encouraging to know things are going on behind the scenes.

Well done Women's Rights Network, with all that is going on in the middle east, so many people are forgetting about the dreadful day to day oppression women in Afghanistan have to endure.
