Minister for Equalities invites Mridul Wadhwa to meeting to discuss LGBT+ hate crime

The meeting features several trans women. Wadhwa famously applied for a job reserved for women at the Edinburgh rape crisis centre, told women who weren't happy with men in their support groups to "reframe their trauma" and was forced out after an investigation.

This afternoon I was pleased to chair a roundtable with LGBT+ organisations and charities to discuss how we can tackle LGBT+ hate crime.

I agree with all the comments about how the hell did this man get invited. Even accepting such a meeting is needed - surely even the most hard bitten TRA would have thought maybe not put his name and face in the public domain. Wont do our reputation any good. Or mabye they think it does. Maybe they think macho posturing is a win win for TRAs.

Disgusted.

Also agree with where was the representation of L&G? Just a further example of how the T cuckoo has pushed the founders of the user not just to the sidelines but out of the nest.

Horrific.

But just to add, Olivia B is not the minister for women, nor on the WEC and according to AI not on any committee.

So what was the meeing, and what was its purpose.

Does anyone know.

Because it would be good to send feedback to who ever it is.

Angry

She's a junior minister, mostly in education but also has the junior equalities brief under Bridget Phillipson, with a particular focus on LGBT. So I'd be interested to know if or how she's fed into the slow walking of the EHRC guidance.

She seems to belong to that common group in the political world, a lesbian who doesn't know what a woman is.

IwantToRetire · 13/03/2026 18:28

Sorry I misread the OP title. It didn't say Women - it did say Equalities.

Her Government post is:
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Department for Education) (Equalities)
Department for Education

ArabellaScott · 13/03/2026 18:30

So, Labour saw the outcry and rage Wadhwa created in Scotland and the damage it did to the SNP, and thought - we'll have some of that?

I think it is deliberate.

I think it is clearly saying to women we dont care what you think.

We dont care that he broke the law.

He was invitied because we want you to know we are never ever going to listen to women who drone on about sex based rights as your vulnerablity is nothing compared to trans people the most oppressed people in the world.

I will be spoiling my vote by voting Conservative 😂

Igmum · 13/03/2026 18:45

Oh FFS. Has anyone told any of the Equalities ministers there are nine legally protected groups, plus a fair few other disadvantaged ones that are not legally protected (class, many carers) all of whom would merit their attention? Most don’t seem to have progressed beyond the most vulnerable 🤦‍♀️

Pingponghavoc · 13/03/2026 19:07

Isn't there some respectable transwoman living a quiet life in Sevenoaks or somewhere, who they can have on standby to go up to Whitehall when a Minister wants to have a photocall with alphabet community stakeholders?

It reflects a lack of self awareness or ego - he must know he's going to attract negative attention, but can't step aside for a Mx Respectable. Or even wanting to signal the inconditional support he has from the government.

POWNewcastleEastWallsend · 13/03/2026 19:26

The icing on the cake - Bridget Phillipson's Social Media Muffin has reposted it!

I never ever thought it would be a possibility for me but I will probably either spoil my ballot again (by writing “adult human female” ) or I might just have to put a ❌ beside the conservative candidate.

It gets worse for those of us in the north I'm afraid. Wadhwa is standing for election in Edinburgh and Lothians East. For the Scottish Green Party, naturally.

The F-ing audacity of this bloke who is clearly determined to exert control over women. The Greens' list is a rogue's gallery, and people will vote for them because they think they are harmless tree-huggers.

What kind of chance do the Greens have in that seat? Please say a non-existent one

Wadhwa is on the list for the area, not a main candidate, and not at the top which means he is unlikely to be elected.

It has - obviously they finally woke up to his badly it was going down though no doubt she was say it was due to 'abuse' or 'hate' 🙄

Is LGB hate still a big problem? I know gay is back as the number one boys insult at schools again. But in real life for adults, does anyone get worked up if you are gay? I haven’t come across it professionally or socially. I cant help but think it’s an issues for T people meeting and they are tagging the LGB on to make it more inclusive.

This is interesting, it's noticeable at our local school as well, and not just for boys. What I notice, however, is that it's not really related to any particular viewpoint on sexuality, even the ones who are kind of artsy-fartsy and woke use it.

It's like it's been shorn to a large extent of the meaning, I suppose similarly to how it had lost the older meaning before. It mainly seems predicated on being contrary to the language diktats of the authority figures, that is, the teachers and school admin.

Leafstamp · 14/03/2026 09:41

It has indeed been deleted, but LWD and others are rightly calling for a review.

And there I was, thinking Mridul Wadhwa had been thoroughly discredited when his Rape Crisis capers came out in court and that he would disappear into obloquy. Well silly me.

Wadhwa is standing for election in Edinburgh and Lothians East. For the Scottish Green Party, naturally.

Well, I wasn't planning to vote Green anyway but that puts the tin lid on it. I'd rather risk Reform than even half a chance of giving Wadhwa any power at all. With Reform at least I don't know that one of their candidates abused his professional role with rape victims.

And when it comes to Conseratives - have you seen the photo of Tess White with her 1200cc motorbike? 😉

MarieDeGournay · 14/03/2026 10:02

The irony - sorry I'll rephrase that, one of the lorryloads of ironies - is that there still are crimes against the 'LGBT+' community, but guess what? most of them are against the L&G part - lesbians and gays, not trans people.

Lesbian couple beaten by group of men still need justice | Advocate.com, or the couple beaten up on a London bus
London bus attack: Arrests after gay couple who refused to kiss beaten
[that was not recent it was 2019 but I don't suppose that kind of violent anti-lesbian hatred has gone away]
Man beaten in Bournemouth homophobic attack in pub toilet

Homophobic crimes like these do not involve 'hurty words', they use boots and fists and, like sticks and stones, break bones.

Homphobic 'Hurty words' abound on football terraces, where racist abuse is quite rightly condemned and will be acted upon, but homophobic abuse is just 'part of the culture'...or something.
And 'gay' has become an insult again in school?

The irony is that the literal literal violence against lesbian and gay people is subsumed into the category 'LGBTQ+ hate crime', and guess which letter in the acronym is the only one that matters?

LGB✂T
