Wicklow Women For Women had to meet in secret

Last Saturday, almost 300 women from all over the country gathered in Dublin city centre for a conference on a topic so controversial the location had to be kept secret, until almost the last minute, because of fears for our safety.

The conference was organised by a small, but growing, group of concerned women who met by chance and discovered they were united in a deep alarm about the impact of the 2015 Gender Recognition Act on the rights of women and children.

Full article also at https://archive.is/RAQJI

Are men's feelings more important than the safety of women?

Last Sunday was International Women's Day, exactly two years since the Government tried to remove the words 'mother' and 'woman' from the Constitution

Thanks for posting that @IwantToRetire. I haven't seen any coverage at all of it in Irish newspapers. I was at the conference. It was a fantastic day and the speakers were amazing.
I was a bit worried beforehand on whether there would be protests but luckily it was all fine. I think the good weather and early start probably kept the potential protesters away.
I liked one of the speaker's (Stella O' Malley- psychotherapist from Genspect) descriptions of a transgender child being like a vegan cat, an ideology completely imposed upon by their parents.
It was great to be in a room with so many like-minded people. That's the first time I've been to such a conference. Afterwards, going home on the bus I realised how much I censor myself and my thoughts in society and what an emotional and mental toll this takes. It was amazing for those few hours to be able to talk freely about the issues but devastating that it is so out of the norm.

Women meeting in secret in 2026. Its so absurd.

Best wishes to you, BruachAbhann.

you should have come to the pub @BruachAbhann its where the best chats happen.

It was a great day. comic con at the same time probably kept many of the crazies away.

Did yoh put your name down for contact?

daffydreams · 11/03/2026 08:19

Gript where invited but said there was a clash on the day.

Igmum · 11/03/2026 08:19

Well done those Wicklow women and good luck getting the government to listen

BruachAbhann · 11/03/2026 08:21

Thank you @ArabellaScott. I know, it's absurd and heartbreaking.

Great to hear from Bruach and Daffy, as I couldn't go myself.

Keeping the venue secret was a good idea, though it shouldn't be necessary - remember what happened in Brighton when the TRAs vandalised the place where the Filia conference took place?
I'm impressed that WW4W managed to keep the location under wraps and avoid any trouble.

WW4W are doing us a huge service by giving a voice and a focus to gender-critical women in Ireland.

Well, I am glad we have just had International Women's Day. It makes such an impact! 👿

Hi daffydreams, I did go to the pub for about an hour and half, then I had to get the bus. Glad to hear you were there too! There was a great buzz there.

I put my name down for contact so looking to hearing from them again. WW4W are doing great work!

Well, I am glad we have just had International Women's Day. It makes such an impact! 👿

There was a march, 4,000 or so allegedly, in Dublin, but the only report I've seen was in Gay Community News, or copied from GCN to Yahoo news etc.
It was very pro-transwomen, of course, but it's interesting that nobody else seems to have covered it at all - I looked on the Irish Times and journal.ie websites, nothing.
So even marches that are 'inclusive' of transwomen don't make the papers...

However, the journal.ie had an article to mark IWD which I actually liked, it wasn't the usual pinkwashing, and although it used the term 'gender based violence' it as clear that it was about VAW.
Neale Richmond: From Ethiopia to Sudan, rape is still a weapon of war

I know, I know - what about VAW and misogyny at home, Minister?
but this article highlighted ongoing atrocities which don't seem to get much media attention - the wrong kind of victim, or something? - and told it straight.

IwantToRetire · 11/03/2026 17:06

So good to hear from those who were there, and fantastic that the event was organised and went ahead, and then (of course!) off to the pub.

But having to rely on the DM to report on it?

Brenda Power spoke . she said other journalists have shunned her. She's one of the few voices speaking up

Paddy O' Gorman too but he's semi retired & doesn't have any fecks left to give

I think it was HJ who said who cares about the main stream media anymore. they are yesterday's news. It's all about the small groups streaming news like Gript or Substack

IwantToRetire · 11/03/2026 17:22

who cares about the main stream media

because sadly most people, sometimes just through having busy lives etc., solely rely on MSM to inform them, and imply what is important what is not.

Undoubtedly the MSM wholesale promotion of the trans agenda has helped at the very least the be kind agenda, and in some instances the full on TWAW.

If MSM gave women's sex based rights the same prominence it would create a very different shared information / opinion among the majority of the population.

Smaller, virtually unknown outlets are good for those who look for sources of information, and allows shared experiences. But do nothing for changing the public agenda.

Sadly.

Glad it went well, so heartening for women to have been able to meet and to speak freely. I was at the Countess conference in the RDS (nearly 2 years ago! 😱) but wasn't able to make this one. Where was the venue in the end? Or is that still secret?!!!!

I'd rather not say exactly where in case they want to pick the same place next year (or whenever the next one is). It was in the city centre, well located.

The Countess was there aswell as one of the speakers.
