Local news is saying that he's been remanded in custody for a month. Due then to appear at Liverpool Crown Court. If it's Judge Menary, he's the Judge who gave him the six months suspended.

Also he's got to make his first payment of £100k to Eni Aluko within the next few weeks.

I’m a Newcastle fan and felt pretty sickened when we signed him. But a lot of people really put themselves out to try to give him a fresh start, in particular our club captain Kevin Nolan. You did wonder if, by removing him from his family in the north west, he might be able to turn himself around. As others have said, he had every opportunity to do so.

Can't explain how, but have had dealings with him professionally in the past. Quite bright, but had a bad upbringing - mum put fellas before her kids, and dad was a thieving junkie. That's no excuse - he has a very high opinion of himself, thinks the world owes him respect, and when he tried to justify and underplay his brother killing Anthony Walker, I thought I'd vomit.

I think Eni Aluko is not a good pundit and disagreed with her comments about Ian Wright. No way that does that condone the behaviour of Joey Barton and the courts made the right decision.

I’m from the area he’s from (my brother knew the boy his brother murdered. Knowing the family background I always hoped JB would break the chain and do better with the opportunities he had. Unfortunately he’s as scummy as the rest of them, the trail of victims of his violence is unforgivable.

A friend of my family was the Custody Officer responsible for locking Joey up after one of his (many) previous misdemeanours. He was apparently a mouthy, entitled and arrogant little gobshite all the way through the custody process, but went strangely quiet when the cell door was slammed behind him...
But he never learns, does he? If he was half as bright as he thinks he is, he'd have changed his behaviour years ago. Unfortunately, far too many Liverpudlians still think he's "a sound lad", and seem to constantly excuse the horrible twat.

@Shortshriftandlethal And I live just outside Liverpool, worked in the city centre for many years, and I'm just reflecting what I used to hear in workplace conversations. I'm absolutely not saying it was a majority, but a significant proportion of the football fans I worked with seemed to regard him as some kind of misunderstood philosopher. Bet he's wishing he gave Barton a custodial back in December now. Tbh I was surprised he only got a suspended then.

He is well liked at Bristol Rovers, they have had a poor season until recently, and the number of fans calling for him to come back as manager was mind-boggling (I support another League 2 club to be clear).
