yes even the biologists are bonkers.
from their newsletter.

News from outside BMIG:
Women's Invertebrate Network
This new, informal group was set up last year to encourage and support women to study invertebrates. It is holding a field meeting at College Lake Bucks (HP23 5QG) on 25 April and anyone is welcome. Pre-booking via Eventbrite is essential and there is a charge of £5 to cover costs. (With an aim to be as inclusive as possible 'women' in this context are those 'born as or identifying as female'). Contact Sue for more information and a link to book.

I was going to make a joke about the organisers needing to grow a backbone but it’s just too important to make fun of. Depressing.

FranticFrankie · 09/03/2026 20:20

Spineless though

And depressing

JellySaurus · 09/03/2026 20:54

I wonder what our own BoiledBeetle thinks of those spineless creepy-crawlers.

potpourree · 09/03/2026 21:16

So these people think "woman" means "female"?

Wow. Why don't they accept that women can be male?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 09/03/2026 21:26

I can see why they put 'women' in inverted commas. 😤

MarieDeGournay · 10/03/2026 14:41

With an aim to be as inclusive as possible 'women' in this context are those 'born as or identifying as female'.

They just don't get that an 'inclusive' named group implies 'exclusive of everybody else', to include you have to exclude, otherwise all groups, societies and organisations would have to include the entire human race.

The group 'left-handed people' excludes right-handed people; the group 'primary school age children' excludes secondary school age children. Otherwise they wouldn't be what they say they are.

Using their definition of inclusivity, I hope they accept that animals with backbones who identify as invertebrates are invertebrates.

Where is this fury, can you point it out, please?

The spineless studying the spineless!

Igmum · 11/03/2026 13:09

FFS 🤦‍♀️ biologists who don’t know the difference between the sexes. They must find reproduction utterly baffling.

TeiTetua · 11/03/2026 14:25

Snails are hermaphrodites. So none of this gender nonsense applies in their slow slimy world.

Oh, they know. They just don’t consider it relevant to the higher orders of life. And I’m sure you understand which ‘orders’ of life they consider the higher ones - oddly enough, this is decided on a sex-segregation basis.
