Government failed to set up clear timetable to implement recommendations of independent inquiry into child sexual abuse, High Court hears

The Government has “effectively allowed the abuse” of thousands of children by failing to implement measures recommended by a national inquiry, the High Court has been told.

The claims were made by the Maggie Oliver Foundation on Thursday as it secured a judicial review of whether the Home Office failed to act on the 20 recommendations of the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse (IICSA).

The foundation, set up by Maggie Oliver, a former police whistleblower, to campaign for tougher action against grooming gangs, argued that the Government had failed to set a clear timetable to implement the recommendations.

In a legal submission, it said the Government had “acted unreasonably and/or in breach of a legitimate expectation”.

Bump - because I think this is quite important!

And shows perserverance is sometimes rewarded.

This is hugely important and I'm glad to see there will be some focus and sunlight on Government failure to act on this crisis.

There is an earlier thread on this.
It's great news isn't it. The more light being shone the better.

Accept there was an existing thread but in letting the majority of users know an "event" or decision has happened its better to have whatever it is as the thread title.

Oh, well done Maggie!

Maggie Oliver for PM! I'm serious, this would be a far far better country if she was in charge of running it. Her determination and persistence in the face of huge opposition and attempts to cover up child abuse is awe inspiring.

It's great she's achieved this but as always it's infuriating she has to. You'd think the government would want to try and reduce the amount of child abuse, apparently not.

What a fantastic woman. She deserves to be a Dame at the very least but I somehow think those in tfe system won’t be her biggest fans,

If only there were MPs with her determination the country would be in a better position

She really does deserve to be recognised in the honours list, but I think the PM has to approve it and hell will freeze over before Starmer allows that. Despite the fact that anyone can see she more than deserves it.

Well done. Bloody men looking the other way for political expedience.

HildegardP · 06/03/2026 22:20

I am very pleasantly surprised.

NewGirlInTown · 06/03/2026 22:35

She is a magnificent woman. More power to her.

LassoOfTruth · 06/03/2026 22:42

Maggie Oliver is such a hero! So frustrating that she (and others) have had to push so hard for this though.
