Wonderful interview with Tracey Emin

An honest and frankly hard discussion about her life and her work - her views on the importance of feminism particularly hit hard.

She also touches on grooming of young girls and alludes to what happened to her. Her righteous anger about Drs and how they treated her as a woman, and of course her cancer experiences.

There was also an article recently in the Guardian or Observer. I am not particularly a fan of her art but she came across really well and I absolutely warmed to her as a woman and a human being

I’ve always been a fan - her exhibition blew me away. But this interview only added to my admiration for her.

She touches on so many key feminist things . I love that she’s spoken to younger women who don’t see the point of feminism and explained why it’s still so relevant.

It’s impossible not to see her life’s work as a huge comment on the unique, challenging experiences of women due to their sexed bodies.

I caught snippets of this- and agree. She speaks so clearly and passionately.
I have always had a lot of time for her.

I have not heard the podcast but have read the interview in the Guardian and would urge anyone to read it. She is brave, truthful and generous, and never gives up.

Yes, I’d managed to assume she was just an attention seeking artist, I’m ashamed to say. Not that my opinion would have mattered to anyone or even been expressed 😅 But now I know a bit more about her, I’m so impressed!

ScrollingLeaves · 27/02/2026 18:28

Her drawing is particularly sensitive and lovely.

I listened to this yesterday and I agree, a wonderful interview and I love her. I love how she said she's really good at being a woman. Brave, honest, beautiful, strong as can be. Happily childless and single. A Dame Commander is the perfect title and honour for her.

I love that she loves cats, too.

I also recommend her memoir, Strangeland.

Bertiebiscuit · 11/03/2026 21:05

And she loves cats. My kind of woman, she tells it like it is about how women and girls are routinely ill-treated.

It’s a really good interview. I wonder what she thinks of sex and gender and the definition of a woman? It wouldn’t take away the strength of the interview I’m just curious. Her drawings are some of the best out there. Her sketches are wonderful.

Of course she knows what a woman is, all her work is about the experience of living in a female body. By creating art and talking about her art, life and cancer, she shows very clearly what the female experience is. That is powerful enough.

Thanks for the reminder. I caught a snippet on Insta and wanted to listen to the whole thing - just found it on Spotify.

'I wonder what she thinks of sex and gender and the definition of a woman?'

I wondered that too

It's a great interview with Emma Barnett. It was especially great to hear her say how happy and relieved she is that she never had children 😊

She's had such a horrendous time with her health in the past few years, I really do feel for her

There’s a good podcast /interview she does with Louis Theroux on Spotify.
