UN expert concerned by UK failure to enforce Supreme Court ruling on sex-based protections

UN expert has expressed serious concern over the United Kingdom’s failure to ensure the effective implementation of a landmark Supreme Court judgment clarifying that the term “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex.

“The continued absence of clear, updated guidance and effective enforcement measures has resulted in widespread non-compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling,” said Reem Alsalem, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls. “This situation undermines legal certainty with particularly serious consequences for women and girls.”

(I couldn't see that this has been posted on FWR as yet. But shows Labour feels able to not only ignore Supreme Court and High Court but also UN)

She is so right. I’ve been amazed at the lack of any enforcement of the law. If you were that slack about paying tax, HMRC would be on you like a tonne of bricks. But ignore laws aimed at reducing male harassment of women, and you’re fine. Shows that the government’s supposed concern about violence against women and girls is just empty talk.

Absolutely. Well done to Reem for speaking up, she’s the only one in the UN who does or isn’t actively trying to make things worse.

The other UN Special Rapporteurs were aligned in concern of other views.

Rights you can't enforce aren't rights.

Well done Reem Alsalem, thank you for continuing to highlight our governments lack of response to it's own SC.

"...judgment clarifying that the term “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex."

I like it, it's accurate, the SC was just clarifying a law that has existed since 2010, so get it sorted Two Tier.

“The law must be clear, coherent, and consistent with international human rights standards,” the experts said. “We urge UK lawmakers to act decisively to reform and align the legal framework in a way that ensures dignity, equality, and non-discrimination for all.”

They are a protected characteristic how much more equal and non-discriminating do these think things can get.

To 'trans'people- their rights and no more.
To women - our rights and no less.

I've said this on other threads, and I am sure others are well aware, the problem is the Labour Party ie the current UK Government.

They have chosen to create this "uncertainty" by not accepting the guidelines submitted to them by the agreed body to draw up those guidelines ie the EHRC.

No amount of condemnation of them for the delay by appointed officials seems to make any difference, and sadly dont think they are bothering to see what women in the UK are saying.

As far as I know Phillipson still hasn't made a public statement about her failed attempt to latch onto the the GLP High Court waste of time and money.

Is it down to all of us to raise yet more money on a court case to take the UK Government to Court over this failure to carry out the Supremem Court ruling.

By us I dont mean FWR, but on the other hand why not?!

Hmm

Rights are the preserve of the wealthy.
