Asked if children had been let down by an adult-led debate, Cass said "absolutely", adding they "were also caught up in all the issues about single-sex spaces and sports and safe areas for women which were actually not to do with the children but they were somehow part of a football within it".

This woman is proving herself exceedingly stupid and self serving.

Children were caught up in a debate about single sex spaces and sports which aren't about children?!!!

Wtf?

So let me get this straight. Young girls and teenage girls don't need and use single sex facilities. And issues with sports also don't impact on teenage girls.

Is that what she's saying????!!!!

Fuck off. And keeping fucking off some more.

This woman is proving herself to be an idiot and is trying to desperately make herself look better in the eyes of activists. She doesn't give a fuck about children. She's playing politics here for her own sake.

The issues around kids and single sex facilities are some of the most compelling!

I'm just staggered by this shit show.

Meh, "think of the children!" has long been used as a tactic used in an attempt to prevent rational debate by misdirecting empathy towards an object which may not have been the focus of the original argument. In terms of sports & toilets they are hardly the one's mostly effected.

Errrr ... No they just see the ones having to deal with mixed sex toilets and disciplinary issues more than anyone else but as you were.

I know. We all know. But there's no paper trail to prove it and anecdata isn't enough. Therefore what's the alternative? To not do trials and it continues being peddled by private clinics who advertise on Instagram who don't need to mention the risks because there aren't studies to back it up?

Edited

The alternative is to accept that it is inappropriate to experiment on children

Kimura · 16/02/2026 01:57

I'm quite torn. I don't believe that a child, pre-puberty, is in any way capable of making an informed decision about a medical procedure that will impact them for life. It's ridiculous. I struggle to understand how a parent could allow it.

But on the other hand, I think the issue has progressed to the point that the bell can't be un-rung. If there are parents out there who will allow or encourage PBs etc, I'd rather their child be under the correct care than some dodgy online quack using unlicensed medications from overseas, and no support structure.

I might not agree with it, but on that basis I think it's important that trials are started ASAP.

I expect most people will have a certain view on the kind of parent that would sign off on such a trial. But I suspect there are some parents out there who are simply desperate for their child to be happy to the point that they'd be willing to try anything.

I honestly don't know enough about how potentially dangerous medical trials on children work to have a fully formed opinion. It's obviously not the first of its kind, but I can see it ending disastrously for some people.

Pretty disappointed with HC. There are no “both sides”, none. In addition, humans are sexually dimorphic, sex is determined at conception and nobody can change sex. We have known this for hundreds of millions of years if not more. I keep pinching myself- feels like we are living through some kind of cultural revolution, just lucky that people are not publicly executed for wrong-think yet.

porridgecake · 16/02/2026 02:11

I was very disappointed with Emily Thornberry. Spouting nonsense about the most vulnerable, most marginal, most violently attacked community in the UK. On national tv.
The BBC just choose panel members to mislead the public.

Lol, 'mixed sex toilets' as 0.000000001 trans girls.

Listen, if you people cared anything about the well being of children we would heard something from you about the 20 odd thousand massacred in Gaza, alas, nary a whisper. But as you were.

How can you possibly know what someone on an anonymous forum thinks or has said about Gaza? Or do you just assume that if someone disagrees with you on one issue they must be on the opposite side of every argument?

Very empty-headed.

You wouldn't on this thread because there are designated threads devoted to Gaza.

People (sensible ones at least) haven't suggested that someone can change their biological sex though. I really struggle to take people who pretend they don't understand that (and constantly repeat some version of the 'people cant change biological sex' line like it's new information) seriously.

Especially places like MumsNet, in conversations where nobody is suggesting otherwise.

Whose benefit is this for? I'm not trying to be mean, it just baffles me!

Children have suffered sexual assault from males in female spaces, brain damage and loss of medals and places in women’s and girls sport, and your response is “Lol”.

Quite the children’s advocate, aren’t you?

The same Gender criticals not being as loud on loos as they are on Gaza is a fact on social media & MN is an example of that: See JK Rowling. You don't see any of the same ones on Gaza threads that you you do on the sex & gender threads.

Isolated instances aren't the same as a trend. This just isn't happening at scale for the simple mathematical reason that the trans population is miniscule.

Quite the logician, aren't you?

People aren't obliged to engage on every topic just because they engage on another. Not doing so doesn't mean you get to decide what their stance is.

And unless you're monitoring people's posts or have an encyclopedic knowledge of every MN thread, you've no idea what they may or may not have said.

Common sense dictates that if one was at all passionate about child abuse as they claim to be they would.

And having a keen interest on both topics AND regularly engaging on MN I can confirm the absence of the usual suspects on Gaza is obvious.

And its the same on X. All the loudest anti trans 'protect the children voices' are pro Israeli or silent on the genocide.

Firstly, it doesn’t matter if it’s a “trend” or not, it’s happening and the point is that children have been impacted by males in single sex spaces and sport. That it’s happening at all is the issue. You said that because they aren’t “the most effected [sic]” then it’s worthy of a “meh”. Why do you think girls being sexually assaulted by males in female single sex spaces is “meh”?

Second, for such a tiny population as you describe, trans identifying males are over represented as sex offenders in prisons. They seem to be committing crimes against children over and above their purported population rate.

So how many children need to be affected by males in their spaces and sports before you consider it worthy of more than a “meh”?

10? 100?

By societies own metric, resources & attention allocated depends on numbers. That's why rare deadly diseases aren't afforded as much interest.

In terms of criminal offences, it's already illegal to abuse children.

You expressed indifference - “Meh!” - to the OP that pointed out that children are victims of gender ideology, not just from medical treatments, but also from the harm inflicted upon them through allowing males into female spaces and sport, a safeguarding measure that exists (previously existed) to reduce the likelihood of such occasions of abuse.

Your point seems to be that because, in your estimation, the trans population is tiny, and because “by societies own metric, resources & attention allocated depends on numbers” meaning the number of crimes impacting children is low, there’s no response needed other than “meh” or “lol”.

Do you really think this is an argument that paints you as an advocate for children (“because Gaza!”)?

What are the rest of us? Silly Billies for getting all het up over nothing?

"Meh" was in reference to the obvious flawed reasoning of gender criticals using children to justify their own bigotry not any suffering that may have been incurred.

But yeah, do continue to distract from the point of child exploitation if it gets you thru the night.

The same as always, demonising & dehumanising non conformists to conservative ideals.

ProfessorEmeritaVeraAtkins · 16/02/2026 07:06

Interesting that the poster talking about bigotry is referring to 'gender criticals' as one homogenous entity - almost like, err I don't know - bigotted behaviour?

'Bigotry is the obstinate, unreasonable attachment to one's own beliefs, characterized by intolerance, prejudice, and discrimination against individuals or groups with different opinions, religions, races, or identities'
