Jamaat I Islami forecast to do well

https://www.tbsnews.net/bangladesh/politics/women-can-never-be-chief-jamaat-e-islami-shafiqur-tells-al-jazeera-1346726

Graun:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/11/bangladesh-election-islamist-party-women-freedoms

"In an attempt to demonstrate the party’s commitment to women, thousands of female Jamaat e-Islami supporters took to the streets of Arman’s constituency in Dhaka to deny that the party would restrict their freedoms."

Sorry it's a bit too international for me to follow, I'm guessing a Bangladesh women in this country stands a better chance of being PM here than she would at home. It's a good job she moved here then, if she wants to be a PM.

If you mean Tulip Sidiq, she was born in the UK and is the niece of the deposed former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who turned autocratic

I didn't mean anybody, I didn't know what the OP was about, admittedly I didn't click on the Guardian link, only the top one, I've since listened to a podcast that put it in context. An Islamist party that's fielding no female candidates in the upcoming election, that seems to have a lot of support. Given that the favourite party is more of the same corrupted system, they could end up in power. Thing's aren't great for women in Bangladesh already, they could be set to get worse.

2 women have been Bangladeshi prime ministers. One in India.
That's a better record than the US.

If the Islamist's get in that not likely to be repeated, which is what I thought the OP was about.

An Islamist party would be very bad news for the religious minorities who are living in Pakistan.…from the India Tribune..

Year after year, reports document underage Hindu girls being abducted, coerced into converting to Islam, and married to Muslim men. Families who attempt legal remedies face death threats, delayed hearings, and court rulings that overwhelmingly favour the alleged converters,” the report stressed.

Killing of Hindus in Pakistan reflects culture of intolerance: Report

Kathmandu, Jan 24 (IANS) Pakistan's Sindh province, home to the bulk of the country's Hindu minority, has faced recurring outbreaks of communal violence sparked by blasphemy accusations. These attacks unfold in a similar pattern, beginning with an alle...

An Islamist party is bad news for everyone, even Muslims, it's especially bad for women and girls, from what I've heard, the predicted results of the election in Bangladeshi don't look promising, it sounds like another Afghanistan or Iran, or any of the Islamic countries really, in the making.

It really is a bad time for the West to destroy itself. I have no words for those who are responsible for our destruction.

Looks like the BNP have won. (not the UK BNP obviously)

Id hesitate about saying phew if they bring them into coalition. Formerly led by Khalida Zia as the widow of the former leader. Now led by her son

Seems like the lesser of two evils, best of luck to Bangladesh, let's hope the new government deliver the changes the people want. 🤞
