Talking About Gender

This article is quite old, but interesting to read as it shows that radical feminists have always been clear that sex and gender are not the same thing. https://www.troubleandstrife.org/new-articles/talking-about-gender/

But why I am posting it is because it has recently been announced that Deborah Cameron has died. And it maybe that those of us who aren't familiar with academic feminism are not aware of her writing, but she was an inspiration to many eg:

Karen Ingala Smith: ... shocked and saddened to hear that Deborah Cameron wordspinster has died. Lovely woman and sound influential feminist.

Maya Forstater: I am shocked and sad to hear that Deborah Cameron
wordspinster has died. She was a feminist linguist who noticed and wrote about the sex/gender language power games early on.

Just bumping this as for some reason MNHQ had hidden it saying it was under review - and only realised late yesterday.

Thank you -I am not great on theory or names but I’ll keep my eyes open for reading

I think Deborah Cameron's article I linked in OP was written for feminist activists, rather than accademics. She was herself an activist,

I just about managed and usually find accademic feminist articles hard to get to grips with.

But also interesting at it shows that radical feminist have long rejected the idea that sex and gender mean the same thing and published long before the TRAs became dominant.

Response from MNHQ re blocking OP originally. Doesn't make sense to me, but thought might be of interest:

We use automated systems to scan links posted on the boards as part of our normal moderation and safeguarding processes. They’ll sometimes flag links that are fine. It just prompts a human moderator to take a look and make a decision in context. That’s what happened here.

We don’t go into detail about the specific signals the system uses, but please be reassured it’s there to help protect users and not to catch people out.

Makes sense to me

it’s a bit like the early porn blockers made it impossible to search for Scunthorpe

Is there a lot of porn in Scunthorpe then? 😂

😂 Remember the poor souls at Pen Island who hadn't thought through the effects of using their name in a URL?

Oh no! I hadn’t seen this. I recommend Professor Cameron’s blog, and her scholarly writing which is actually really accessible.

Thanks for adding this.

Seems her X account was also thought highly of.
