Fiona Goddard fighting battle for justice for grooming gang victims

Fiona seems to be doing a stirling job of fighting for victims rights. There seems to be several threads. Yesterday on GMB an interview

From the age of fourteen, Fiona Goddard was the victim of sustained abuse by grooming gangs while living in a children's home in Bradford. In 2019, nine men were convicted of sexual offences against her and jailed.

This week, Fiona was told that her applications for compensation had been rejected by Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police.

My speech today in bradford council. They have voted to take my request to the next level. Hopefully the councillors will now see how important this is and take the lead in pushing for bradford to have a full inquiry as part of the national inquiry. Susan hinchcliffe said this has already been done, but it hasn't. They have said they are willing if the inquiry wants to. Like I said in my speech we do not want willingness. We want action and leadership.

She has also manged to get the full transcript of the trial published, including testimonies she's never seen.

We know this enormous trial is going to be hard to digest, so alongside we’ve produced a companion podcast. 3 episodes of Julie Bindel (@bindelj) interviewing Fiona (@fionagoddarduk) about her experiences, getting to trial, & how and why grooming happens & institutions fail.

This has been cooking for a while, the first major project I’ve been involved in since going solo away from agency life. Excited for people to hear it and the impact it will have.

Sorry I haven't read all this but wanted to highlight. It's trending on X.

For transparency: Fiona read in the transcripts that when she was finally found by police and brought back to the care home, professionals had to don PPE. They wore protective clothing because she was a child covered in blood and semen after days of mass rape. The care workers knew exactly what she had been through. The care home knew. They saw the evidence with their own eyes

They protected themselves, but they failed to protect her. That is the question no one wants to answer. Why could adults be safeguarded instantly, yet a child was left exposed, repeatedly abused, and returned to the same system that failed her? This was not ignorance or confusion. It was a choice. A system more focused on protecting itself than protecting a child.

Jesus Christ! It's so dreadful it's beyond swearing which is my usual response to most things (sorry to any Christians on here)
They had to wear PPE !!! And what was the ruddy care home doing? Theyre supposed to be trained to look after vulnerable children, not pander to the attitude that they were actively seeking sex.
Every single adult involved in this is accountable.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 22/01/2026 13:56

Jesus effing christ. That poor, poor girl. Her courage and her strength are quite humbling.

suburberphobe · 22/01/2026 14:06

Just absolutely horrendous!!

FranticFrankie · 22/01/2026 17:05

How on earth...
Poor girl. Beyond horrific

moto748e · 22/01/2026 17:23

That's just heart-breaking. To have that much damage inflicted on you at such a young age, that poor girl. And the absolute contempt I feel for those who would gaslight Fiona and other women like her. But instead of "Jeez, that's awful. Let's put it to rights now", there's another round of 'the process is the punishment'. Courts, the police, the LAs (especially!), everyone has let these girls down.

1984Now · 22/01/2026 17:49

There is just no hurry by the govt to get to grips with this. So much malpractice across so many institutions. Fiona and so many other girls let down by so many, if we truly get wide ranging revelations, it'll prove the spiritual health of the UK is broken as well as our physical structure.
It needs to happen now, leaving it later and later only fuels the anger in society that's already stoked.
Kudos to Fiona, to go on the record is absolutely bravery.

Imnobody4 · 23/01/2026 17:06

Claire Adams seems to be going through the transcripts which is helpful, I haven't had a chance to study them.

Following on from Fiona’s court transcripts.

Today I’m focusing on the language used by police officers and social workers.

In official records and sworn evidence, Fiona, a child, was described as sexually active, as exchanging sex for alcohol or accommodation, and as being known to adult males. These were not her words. They were the words used by professionals entrusted with her protection. Today we are examining that language and what it reveals about why she was failed.

How Language Kills Safeguarding

When police officers and social workers describe a raped child as sexually active, as exchanging sex for alcohol or accommodation, or as being known to adult males, something deadly happens. Abuse is reframed as behaviour. Grooming becomes choice. Rape becomes lifestyle.

This language assigns adult agency to a child and quietly removes perpetrators from the picture. Once that happens, safeguarding thresholds drop, criminal urgency fades, and intervention becomes optional instead of essential. Professionals stop asking who is abusing the child and start asking why the child is behaving this way.

This is why so many child rape victims were ignored. Not because the warning signs were missed, but because the language used by police and social workers weaponised those signs against the child. Words didn’t just describe Fiona’s case. They shaped decisions, justified inaction, and allowed abuse to continue.

Analysis

This wording sexualised a child and assigned her adult agency, reframing rape and grooming as behaviour rather than abuse. By doing so, police and social workers removed coercion, erased perpetrators, and shifted responsibility onto the victim. This language was not neutral. It was weaponised. And it is one of the reasons children like Fiona were ignored, disbelieved, and left in the hands of their abusers.

If you want to know how little support they give the survivors.... one of the men sentenced to do with me only got 18 month and was released in 2020,(he was recalled twice during a 9 month licence btw) and recently I had to ring the police because he was selling drugs to someone that lived on the end of my street and hanging around the end of the street all the time. I have a life long injunction so he shouldnt be anywhere near me. When I rang the police they said, and I quote "we cant stop him from selling drugs to your friend" and that they wouldn't arrest him for breaching the injunction because that would then give away where I lived. So im left having to not be able to leave my house just in case he sees me and where I live because the police wont do anything. He also breached his sexual harm prevention order and hasn't faced any consequences yet. The only other person to be released is now recalled for attempted murder after chopping someones leg off and trying to behead them. So people will understand why I dont have much faith in feeling safe once the rest of my abusers are released.

It's appalling of course, but I don't really understand about the injunctions. So Person A can be the subject of an injunction saying he has to stay away from Person B, but you can't stay away from anyone unless you know where they are based (where to stay away from), at least roughly.

I fear these girls and women are gonna be abandoned one more time, by the very state that is meant to underpin all of us.
Does Jess Phillips and Angela Rayner et al sleep well at night knowing final justice for this group isn't likely to happen?
Maybe Starmer could promise to stay in the UK for 12 months straight, and get things like the grooming gangs inquest sorted, rather then travelling and spending time in his comfort zone, the company of foreign politicians and diplomats.

Starmer doesn't want an inquiry into grooming gangs, because Labour are up to their necks in it. Labour have become dependant on the votes from council areas where the gangs operate, so the last thing they want to do is expose the gangs that vote for them. Many Labour officials (and police officers and social workers) are complicit in the cover-up, and some are complicit in the abuse. There's not enough space in the prisons for all those responsible. If there was a fully transparent inquiry it would be the end of the Labour party, so it won't happen.

It's hard not to conclude that Britain is broken. I've read commentary that we maybe be the only Western nation with this scandal, despite mass migration to the West being a uniform feature over many decades.
My guess is that the very specific nature of Mirpuri clan networks allied to the fact that we've taken tens of thousands from that region over the years, and their children/grandchildren have been inculcated in a very unique spiders web of clan networking, as much family to family as organized crime group type behaviour.
This is on another level from the more typical sexual crime perpetrated by Aghans, Iraqis, Eritreans etc.
The intra family and inter family clan nature of Mirpuri sexual predation shocks even Pakistan outside Mirpuri, and Pakistan has higher than normal rates of sexual offending as well.
And we invited it in, refused to believe it was happening, and would rather destroy these girls and women, then for elites to admit their complicity.

GinaWhoLikesADrink · 25/01/2026 19:12

@1984Now Sadly, I have to agree.

I realise my previous post sounds anti-Labour. I am actually a leftie, or I used to be anyway. But this scandal is hard proof that the so-called Left give no fucks about working class people, least of all female ones. I also blame the Tories, who had long enough to address this matter themselves, but didn't. I used to roll my eyes at the phrase "liberal elites", but that's exactly what they are, ruling over the plebs and looking down on us with thinly-veiled contempt.

Gina, I've lost trust in all of them. I'm a long term Tory voter since '83 (other than once falling for Blair's winning smile in '97), and "my party's" ignoring of this toxic scandal is a big part of my drifting from them. Reform's motivation, and I am open to voting for them, isn't likely to be wholly altruistic. I'm not sure Farage et al either care enough or would get this right.
Labour? Here's the thing, you could once have relied on them for any number of social justice outcomes (Hillsborough, Bloody Sunday, fighting Section 28 etc), but not anymore.
And this scandal just goes too deep, a true uncovering would lift up the stone to multifarious Labour skeletons in cupboards, from the integration of malfeasance at local level with the national party, to the party's addiction to multiculturalism and mass migration especially from those countries that they calculated would become a whole new tranche of Labour voters.
I actually think Farage would also fear a brave inquiry with remit to go anywhere.
There's no part of British (un)civic society that isn't culpable to some degree, Farage could actually cause his own downfall as citizens realize the rot is so deep.
Maybe I also only hold this view...but when British girls in care being sexually abused were being first talked about in the 90s, I recall my reaction, many others, and tabloid sentiment...these were girls asking for it, a feral underclass.
Yes, that was a terrible reaction, but I recall it being pretty uniform across the country.
Of course, we weren't really aware of grooming gangs as a phenomenon, but the empathy for girls in care getting into trouble was minimal.
And not just from the men in my circle, the tabloid media generally, and a fair number of women.
I've done a 180 on this personally, part of the journey on black pilling re trans insanity, how much of the country has?

The hearings for our Rape Gang Inquiry start on February 2nd in central London.

This is the culmination of almost a year's work from the entire team. Hard work, upsetting work, relentless work.

Travelling the country, speaking to survivors, collecting evidence. We've had our challenges of course, this has never been done before, but we are ready for the hearings.

We've seen again and again how Westminster will discuss it for a few days, and the scandal will slip away again. I'm sick of it. It's pathetic. We must change that. Our hearings will change that.

Some of the evidence that has been presented so far will shake this country - our role is to ensure the survivors have a safe, secure and comfortable route to tell the country their stories.

Our qualified mental health and support team will be on hand throughout the entire hearings schedule, and beyond, as they have been for months. Survivor wellbeing is THE number one priority.

The team - Sammy, Nat, Marlon and others - have put SO much effort into working with the survivors and ensuring they feel comfortable. It is absolutely crucial to everything that we are doing.

This is why we have decided there will be no media interviews during the hearings. Evidence will though be released each day, with full permission and careful consideration.

Each day will consist of four sessions, with a three-person panel interviewing the witnesses - some survivors, some experts, some politicians.

The panel will consist of our barrister, Sammy Woodhouse (a survivor), and a qualified individual on the day's particular topic.

My focus is 100% on getting this right over the next few weeks. A report will then be drafted, to be followed by private prosecutions - targets are already being identified. A series of recommendations will be made, and that will form the basis of future campaigning.

We will act, not just talk.

For decades, vulnerable white girls were raped by gangs of predominately Muslim men.

Tens and tens of thousands. If not more. Right across the country.

Our inquiry will go some way to uncovering the full extent of that.

If you donated, I want to personally thank each and every one of you. You made this possible.

Progress made to get to our inquiry to this point, but it's getting really serious now.

We will keep you all updated daily as the hearings progress.
