Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras refuse demands to make trans rights their focus

An interesting article from Pink News. It seems that the Mardi Gras organisers have refused to uphold some operational resolutions that were brought by members to force the organisers to:
"focus specifically on the rights of trans and non-binary people by “encouraging parade floats to show support for the trans community”, while also condemning US president Donald Trump."

It seems that members of the Trans community were forceful in their attempts to get their way on this:
“Mardi Gras stands proudly with trans and gender-diverse communities. We are, and always will be, a visible, active ally,” a spokesperson said. “This decision reflects [the Board’s] responsibility to … respect the independence and diversity of Parade participants. Ensure Parade participation is not used to leverage political outcomes, [and to] act in line with responsible governance and our Ethical Charter.”
"According to the organisation, board members and staff were “subject to personal and harmful commentary online” in the wake of the November meeting. It further claimed that a “coordinated email campaign” allegedly sought to influence the board’s decision-making.
“Targeting, intimidating, or attempting to pressure staff or the Board is not acceptable and does not align with the values we uphold as a community organisation,” the statement continued."
This has not gone down well with the Trans community.

I was ready to be pleased that the LGB community in Sydney were standing up for themselves, but instead it seems to be more about the 'artistic freedom' of Mardi Gras participants to express whatever they want to, not necessarily pro-trans or anti -Trump. Which is good as far as it goes, but not LGB✂T🙁

I saw the article, and I was filled with hope that the LGB's were finally saying enough with your batshittery but when I read the article the organisers were still pretty full on 'trans' so they still got a long way to go. I applaud their stance though, they're trying to take the politics out of the event, which was bound to hit the 'trans', as that is entirely politics.

I was heartened by the organisers making it clear that the transactivists are trying to leverage the Pride event to advance their political aims and they won't tolerate that. And that they don't want their L, G and B participants to be pressured by the Trans element, so that it effectively becomes a Trans event. They also spoke out very strongly against the intimidation tactics used by the trans activists and have refused to capitulate under pressure.

Slowly but surely sanity is returning.
