Stonewall is in financial difficulty

Interesting post from Rob Jessel:

https://x.com/robjessel16/status/2008194383301185966

If you can't read it, their return to Companies House shows that last year (ending 31 March 2025) they had a deficit of £906k.

A deficit is for a single year, rather than the overall amount of debt an organisation has (eg you could have a deficit for a single year but still not be in debt).

One startling element is the reduction in reserves. At the end of the previous financial year they had reserves of £998k. At the end of March 2025, that was down to £92k.

That's such a dramatic fall I wonder if I've understood it correctly, so if you have more financial expertise than I do, feel free to correct me.

You can see the Companies House return at: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02412299/filing-history

They spent too much on rainbow flags. Dreadful shame 🤭

LizzieSiddal · 05/01/2026 18:51

If only they hadn’t decided to actively lie when giving “advice”. The ones who made that decision deserve to be in prison.

EdgeOfThirtySeven · 05/01/2026 19:09

It's extraordinary to think that, a few short years ago, the large institutions and companies of this country were completely captured by Stonewall. The civil service, the NHS, the BBC, big banks, etc etc...

Well done to the wimmins who stood up to them and their ilk 👊

But you need more reserves than that if you are an organisation with that many employees.

My charity employer has many times that number of reserves and less than 20% that number of staff.

That’s why is said ‘a drop in reserves alone’ because I didn’t know anything else or the number of employees. I know of another charity that has recently been told it needs to spend a few million because it’s holding on to too much money, presumably in relation to the reserves they are deemed to need.

Either way, I won’t be worrying about Stonewall being in trouble!

Toseland · 05/01/2026 19:23

It's chilling how the top LGB charity has been destroyed - the legacy of Ruth Hunt. I guess many funds are being pumped into TQ+ charities instead.

IsThisTheReaLife · 05/01/2026 19:29

Wow. That is really bad.

I don't think they are. The corporate teat has dried up. Anyway, what other TQ+ charities? There are a few small ones, but they're generally not actual charidees and are a bloke in his mum's basement with a laptop calling himself something like "International Trans Escape Action Network Council".

The Grift Law Project seem to be the only ones raising money, but they raise it from the poor delusional TRAs. The big institutions aren't giving anyone any money, except the occasional Pride march. And that is being massively downgraded as well.

Sad times 😥

Looks like they had 76 staff members, down from the year before (see page 37).

They also seem to be losing Trustees like flies.

Page 15 is interesting. They state that they are still a going concern. There is more talk of that in later parts of the accounts. They seem to think their position will strengthen in the next two years 🤔

One of the ones that gets a free pass too often is GIRES. They're older than Mermaids, just as batshit, just as unethically fond of the suicide lie, & like Mermaids, pressured the Tavistock GIDs to abandon medical ethics & competence in favour of TQ feelz. Despite their overall income plumetting from a high in 2023, they've managed to increase their income from govt contracts (for what? From which dept/s?) from just £450 in 2020 to £18.39k in 2024. In a sane world neither they nor Mermaids could have charitable status, far less govt work.

Global Butterflies & Gendered Intelligence [sic] picked up a fair few training [sic] & advice [sic] gigs where firms had cottoned onto the reputational harm of continued association with Stonewall but hadn't yet realised the extent & ubiquity of the TQ sector's lies.

Yes, I think next year's accounts for all of them will be very interesting...

KnottyAuty · 05/01/2026 21:09

My limited trading company accounts for 24/25 will show a deficit because I moved money out of it and into a second/new “holding” company for a separate project/new business. Like Stonewall my reserves dropped markedly and the figures show a debt in the trading company (cancelled out when considered with the holding company accounts).

So my thought is that the deficit could be (in part) a movement of funds elsewhere to protect the money if they think they’re going under? Or if they’re starting a new offshoot?

im not accountant so I don’t know if the rules of Ltd companies are similar to linked charities….

Nope a charity can not transfer funds in to a trading wing or anywhere else other than an investment in the name of the charity, and would be visible in the accounts as charity accounts fall under SORP rules, unlike the private sector.

Transferring cash to another company and recording this transfer as a debtor wouldn't affect reserves. Reserves for charities show the cumulative income less cumulative expenses and a loan isn't an expense.

For a limited company Reserves show profits after tax less dividends paid so a loan would also not affect the Reserves.

I doubt Surrey Pride has many sponsors queuing up. Large organisations would do well to research thoroughly before committing funds.

Pleasing news. Will they have to close completely? If only they’d done something worthwhile when they had the chance.

Well based on the accounts they are going to have to significantly downsize in to insignificance

I would encourage everyone to look up the sponsors for Pride in their area and let them know that they are risking reputational damage. I have recently written to the HQ of a high street supermarket chain enclosing a photo of one of their store's vans parading proudly behind the Kink & Fetish group at the local Pride march. I bet HQ had no idea.

NotDarkGothicMama · 05/01/2026 22:40

Hahahaha. I pause to be a bit sad that such a worthwhile organisation has descended into a dangerous farce...

Got over it.

Iamnotalemming · 05/01/2026 22:53

Goodness. How the mighty, etc.

Please prepare yourselves for the downfall of this righteous organisation being attributed, in no particular order, to transphobia, terfs, right wing bigotry etc.

Gosh, maybe if they’d stuck to campaigning for and supporting LGB folk instead of helping AGPs access women’s spaces and encouraging teenagers to mutilate themselves this wouldn’t have happened…..
