Bindel in Blackpool - some very sad statistics of abuse and transition

Julie Bindel researching worrying trends and statistics of abuse, assault and transition amongst girls in Blackpool.
Higher than the national average for assault and abuse (and possibly sex offenders, over 800 in one town) and higher than national average amount of girls wanting to transition.

Why do so many girls in Blackpool want to become boys?

In this run-down, working class seaside resort, rife with child abuse and poverty, referrals to gender clinics are almost four times higher than the national average. Why?

Didn't realise this article had vintage. JKR tweeted it yesterday so assumed it was recent. Bindel says she released it again in relation to the puberty blockers trial being imminent.

I don’t think Carolyn Mercer is 75. CM has been in the media quite a lot discussing conversion therapy, transition etc and in 2021 was 74. DOB seems to be 1947. Not a big point considering the story and quite possibly just a mistake unless trans age has become a thing.

When I was at Uni a girl on my degree left for a few months, came back for a few weeks and then left for good. From her appearance in those few weeks - cut her hair short, wore the baggyist of clothes etc it was quite obvious what had happened. I can totally understand the need to make yourself look like a completely different person when sexual abuse / rape has occurred. It’s a defence mechanism. I really hope that where it is the case, these young women get the support they need. Changing gender may be a sticking plaster but it’s not going to make the trauma disappear.

I didn't realise it wasn't a recent article either but I wonder if anything has changed. Sexual exploitation of children by men is age old and isn't going to stop just because it's no longer as socially acceptable as it once was. Men's sex drives don't change because policy changes.

The comment below the article about there being a lot of accommodation for difficult to place children in Blackpool is also interesting. A lot of big old, former B&Bs having been repurposed. Seems that wherever there are vulnerable children there are ghouls ready to exploit sexually or economically.

Personally I think it's time to make it illegal for men to be alone with any fewer than 10 children (so men could still teach but never be unsupervised with small numbers of children). I doubt it would be practical to extend this to their own family members, but a hell of lot of harm would be avoided if we could.
