Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

"The surge in transgender identification in recent years wasn’t the revelation of a hidden biological truth. It was a social phenomenon shaped by imitation, ideology and institutional reinforcement".

So very true. So many children have been harmed by the adult world's failure to get to grips with all this.

According to Webberley why would it be a social contagion because it isn't something that's cool. Neither was anorexia or cutting yourself Helen, but they were social contagions.

But trans very much was cool, and still is according to a lot of genderist propaganda. The colourful flags for gender identities, the coming out "celebrations", the special clubs to join, the vilification of "cis" people as boring normies, the platforming and promoting and special attention. I agree distressing things can also be social contagions, but a trans identity was definitely promoted as the cool things to be including in schools.

5 years ago, aged 10/11, my DD and all her friends had special LGBTQ identities for about a month, and bought the flags and shared them out. It was frowned upon to be straight and cis so nobody was. My DD chose bi. Some chose trans boy or NB. None of them have those identities now but if they'd parents or teachers who wanted to run with it and push it, they could have gone down that path easily.

I remember the "trans boy" staying with the other girls on a school residential trip and the (older, female) teachers being extremely sensible and sensitive about it while ensuring she was safe. But that's not always what happened.

Did she really say that? She's really quite dim, isn't she?

Contagion implies being infected by something in a negative way, anyway; by something which breaches your defence system and your healthy boundaries.

@Shortshriftandlethal She said it on one of the interviews on YouTube, can't remember if it was the Times one with Helen Joyce, the Andrew Gold one or another one that I unfortunately watched. She said how it isn't cool to be trans there are so many problems for them and discrimination etc Obviously completely ignoring the fact that anorexia and cutting aren't cool but they were social contagions.

I absolutely cannot stand Webberley. On one interview (I think Heretics with Andrew Gold) he asked her if she believes the desire to/belief that one can change sex is a mental health issue. She said no, he asked why, she said 'because it isn't'.

There we go then, Dr Webberley says it's isn't a mental health condition so it isn't a mental health condition.

Not only was trans-identifying in recent years cool but it gave considerable power over others to those who would exploit it.
