School taught me about bank accounts but not breast exams https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj9yep3rlylo

the materials appear to centre women from images. Obviously we need to see the rest.

the Article wrote up also centres women.

Molly who had a rare brain tumour and had early periods and then a very early menopause says: "They really did take over my life, then I lost them when I was 16, which had massive detrimental effects to all parts of my body and I live with long term damage because of that, so my periods were a massive driving force in getting a diagnosis and the support that I needed.”

however it uses a quote from an activist

Elen, 17, said boys on the youth panel played a big part in contributing to the design of the new resources, though typically boys and girls are still separated for these lessons in school.

"There's almost a stigma about it, and you'll listen in different rooms, which shows you think it's only relevant to one gender, which of course isn't true," she said.

I know this is bbc balance and it’s better than it would have been last year, but honestly, join the fuckin dots ppl!

no, don’t shove all the boys in with the girls because a few girls think they’re boys!

and clearly a healthy puberty is vital for long term health - why the f are we running a trial on a drug that we KNOW fucks up puberty with disastrous long term health impacts?! For aesthetic reasons!

Molly Fenton and Athika Ahmed smile at the camera. Athika cups her chin with one hand.

Schools to teach about endometriosis, periods and cancer screenings

Resources will be made available in schools on women's health topics to reduce the gender health gap.

In some schools they have mixed sessions as well as single sex sessions, so they can learn about each others bodily processes. They did at the school one of my kids went to.

WarriorN · 04/12/2025 10:10

A combo of the two is likely to be fine but girls are known to not speak up in the presence of boys and must be given their own space as a priority

Males can also get breast cancer.

WarriorN · 04/12/2025 11:17

So they should be told that.

Doesn’t mean they have to be in with the girls to be told that.

The more talking about our bodies is normalised the better. Girls should know about testicular cancer and self checking and boys should know about breast cancer and self checking.

Segregating boys and girls can make the topics taboo as if they should be a secret to be kept shamefully hidden. The girls go have a special periods talk and the boys get extra art or sports!

everyone should have the information on both reproductive and sex specific issues as they might have loved ones / work colleagues going through those,

Anything that helps the next generation of men being more aware and supportive is a good thing!

Very, very, very few. And the boys can be told that, can't they?

Girls will not ask questions etc if boys are present. Boys don't get extra art etc they get the period talk as well - so they know.
Girls get the testicular cancer talk, and the other bits they need to know about boys.
But separately, for the privacy and dignity of the girls (and the boys).
