Police unable to consistently record crimes against women

Times article today

http://archive.today/3e5aV

Highlights the fact that the police forces do not have a unified way to record and collate information about rape and other crimes of violence against women.

I am stunned. Daily we have the point driven home that women and girls simply don't matter.

from the article:

Basic questions about the scale of rape, sexual assaults and indecent exposure “cannot be answered” because data collection is “patchy and difficult to obtain”, she said.

More than a quarter (26 per cent) of police forces in England and Wales have failed to implement a basic, unified policy for investigating sexual offences. Police chiefs have also ignored Angiolini’s recommendation that those with convictions or cautions for sexual offences should be automatically barred from service, although the Home Office said the measure is likely to be implemented next year.

The inquiry exposed a “troubling” lack of funding and ambition to prioritise and tackle predatory behaviour before it escalates. Angiolini warned that many women’s lives could be at risk as the Christmas party season gets under way and women travel to meet friends and relatives.

As you say, daily reminders. A 'troubling lack' of managing to notice or care at all about anything to do with the half of the population that are women and girls, never mind 'prioritise'.

Oh ffs

Jesus. You’d think by now, 2025, after all the huge media worthy cases, we’d have this by now.

WarriorN · 02/12/2025 18:49

I bet they have accurate records for how many trans police officers there are.

Brefugee · 02/12/2025 19:17

I have long said that the trans lobby should welcome, if int insist, on the police (and other authorities) recording sex and - where there is one - gender identity

That way we know if there are areas where trans-identified individuals or groups need resources or help and support.

So - on them i fear. But as usual it is women losing out.

I wonder if forces managed to cobble together a unified way to record non-crime incidents ?

Very good question
