Does anyone know anything about this organisation? It looks good and I have not easily found anything where women are defined as “anyone who thinks they are”.

They are included in a newsletter email I received from MetEngage which is the public engagement system used by the Metropolitan Police. In their latest newsletter there is a section on VAWG and gives a link to a webinar being run by “Naomi Smith the Chief Executive Officer of the Her Centre, an advocacy organisation providing training and one-to-one support to women. “

I like the sound of this. The photo shows a lot of ethnic-minority women, who tend to be less gullible about men pretending to be women. So this may be genuinely single-sex. I hope so!

They've been around for years, I think more as a local group (Greenwich).

And have always thought, with no real evidence, that they have kept out of the culture of women sector groups.

And that because their focus is on women from minority communities they wouldn't be part of the trans narrative. Unless under pressure from the local council.

How wrong can I have been. Sad

Her Centre's Inclusion Policy

  • All Women Welcome: Her Centre explicitly states that all women are welcome in their services, regardless of their sexual orientation or trans identity.
  • Focus on Domestic and Sexual Abuse: The organisation is woman-focused and woman-led, dedicated to tackling domestic and sexual abuse and empowering women.
  • Support for Men: Men experiencing abuse are directed to seek support through Respect, a separate organisation.
  • Legal Framework: Her Centre operates within the legal framework that allows women's organisations to define their service users, choosing to be explicitly trans-inclusive and ensuring clarity about who they support.
For more information about their services or to make a referral, you can visit the Her Centre website.

@IwantToRetire well done for digging down. I wonder if “regardless of trans identity means transmen?

Well it's confusing because all the way through they talk about being by and for women.

But say they are using the "legal framework" that allows they to provide servies as they think fit. (Not sure about the legality!)

But where they are at fault is there is no clarity. This guideline came out of the online training provided by the WRC on how to provide trans inclusive services. If a group is doing this they MUST make this clear.

And this group does not.

I looked at the web site and became suspicious because none of their vacancies use the legal entitlement to implement women only (sex based) services.

So as google, as usual failed me, in fact it was AI that dug out this info which is not in any obious to a casual user of the web site.

You could easily sign up to one of their services and not be at all aware that TW are included in women service provision.
