This article was published in the New Yorker earlier this month by a man who apparently believes his son is turning into a woman.

It'll be nothing new to most here except that it's better written than most articles of this kind. It's quite long but I'm including it so that the response makes sense.

If you only have time or the inclination to read one, I'd recommend the second one. It's much shorter anyway.

The first one is well written and interesting. I couldn’t open the send one.

So sad. And that’s before the beautiful young bodies start breaking down under the assault of wrong-sex hormones, damaging surgery and middle age.

Were you able to read both?

I found the first one pretty ridiculous. The second one is way more realistic.

I read the first one last night, pretty ridiculous is a good assessment. The New Yorker is horrible on this issue. But quite fascinating to see in black and white the pathway from the son from ‘I’m just exploring something, pronouns don’t matter’, to ‘I’m a woman’, then the staunchly gay boyfriend trying his oestrogen gel and transitioning as well!

The big about wearing a sheer top with no bra as that wasn’t what he had to do before, the creepy references to soft skin, the sex talk between parent and child… it thoroughly gave me the ick to be honest. Malaga airport written all over it. So offensive to women, but they’ll never see it.

*bit, not big!

Follow up: That response from DIAG is brilliant and true.

Marcus’s piece is an ode to self-annihilation, his child’s and his own. As his son, Nat, slips further into ideological beliefs, James heedlessly follows along, seemingly out of kindness. This is about as kind as getting into a car with a drunk driver out of empathy for their alcoholism.
