Jolyon's misogyny on show again

The "kimono fox killer" refers to Hadley Freeman's writing style as "warm fluffy" in an attempt to discredit her comments or writing about gender issues.
Since when has writing about the awful condition of anorexia, amongst many other things, been warm and fluffy jolyon?

Hadley Freeman (@HadleyFreeman) on X

Love getting career and life advice from the kimono fox killer. Unsurprising that a man who worships gender stereotypes prefers women to write “warm, fluffy columns.” But only one of us went so mad as to believe men can be women and it wasn’t me, bucko

I guess he is referring to the fact that she used to write regularly about clothing and such like. I'm guessing that was simply because she was a young and relatively new staff member whose talent was being developed by giving her a more trivisl spot. She wrote really well then, really dry humour, but they were quite slight pieces.

So I wouldn't describe the tweet as misogynistic. I would just take issue with the 'descent into madness' bit, which I think might be termed as projection on the part of JM.🙄

JellySaurus · 24/11/2025 06:59

This supporter of gender stereotypes clearly expects that a woman’s role is to do ‘warm and fluffy’, and he tut-tuts her when she steps out of the ditch he has assigned to her.

Floisme · 24/11/2025 07:35

Hadley’s fashion column used to be anything but warm and fluffy. She was as sharp and on the nose then as she is now. If I remember corrrctly, at least one designer banned her from his shows because of unflattering comments.

I doubt Jolyon ever read a single word - all he’ll know is that she used to write about fashion and he’ll have put in her in a box in that basis.

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2025 07:38

I’m not surprised.
He’s an utterly disgusting misogynist who seems to be a thick as pig shit.

"But I wasn't talking about Paul Smith himself, I was talking about the clothes, such as suggesting that skirts that ended mid-calf weren't flattering and that orange and green as a combination made you look like a carrot."

😂 Perhaps Jolyon should reread this article - not only because it is brilliant but because it would do him good to see that excellent writing doesn’t have to be fluffy and that it is quite possible to disagree with someone without making it into something personal.

Headline news - Kimono Fox Killer not fit to Lick the Boots of Kick-Ass Woman Writer. 👊

teawamutu · 24/11/2025 08:40

Curious: at what point was JM's misogyny ever hidden?

Amazing that he's both managed to reveal that he either never read Hadley's columns, or wasn't perceptive enough to appreciate the sharpness, AND that he preferred the 'little woman stays in the talking about dear little kittens and shoes' trope in a single sentence.

Every time I think he can't be more of a dick etc etc etc.

Spot on, Floisme.

And thanks for the Guardian article link, from way back when I used to read it.

The emperor's new clothes indeed!

SionnachRuadh · 24/11/2025 10:29

Also, I am not a fashion critic, but perhaps Jolyon should get himself a new profile pic, possibly with his new bouffant hairdo and designer specs, because that orange t-shirt one looks uncomfortably like an Epstein mugshot.

Greyskybluesky · 24/11/2025 10:31

The TRAs on reddit said the same thing about Epstein @SionnachRuadh . Good to know we can all agree on certain points!

Thortour · 24/11/2025 10:31

Women refusing to do as the fox killer requires! Shocking.
Appalling man.

Back in 2008 Jolyon’s job was assisting rich people to pay as little tax as possible.

Greyskybluesky · 24/11/2025 10:43

I laughed at this bit in the Guardian article that Floisme posted:

Similarly, my Gaultier ban was prompted by a review of a particularly fur-heavy couture collection in 2006 in which I suggested that "rarely can an animal have died in vain as sadly as did the fox, whose top half, head to tail, was splayed across an evening gown".

SionnachRuadh · 24/11/2025 10:47

Gaultier has been off the boil for quite a while. A few years ago he was selling a men's scent, with a rather arresting advert featuring shirtless sailors on a boat. I was disappointed that it had one of those very generic names they give to men's scents, and was not called "Hello Sailor". The Gaultier of Eurotrash vintage would not have missed an open goal like that.

I think he looks more like Lee Anderson every day!

Quite!

Greyskybluesky · 24/11/2025 11:29

I wonder if JM still has that gown? 🤔

lcakethereforeIam · 24/11/2025 12:18

Man who thinks humans can change sex accuses someone else (who doesn't) of 'descent into madness'!

Yes! He does. I’m not going to unsee that now. But then, it’s probably less queasy-making a mental image than imagining him in the kimono. Utter tool that he is.

RayonSunrise · 25/11/2025 06:01

I used to adore Hadley Freeman’s fashion column. It was never warm or fluffy!

Floisme · 25/11/2025 07:02

Did she also do the Lost in Show Business page? Or was that Marina Hyde? Or maybe they both worked on it. Anyway it was also never warm or fluffy - the takedowns of Sting were joyous.

DeanElderberry · 25/11/2025 07:43

A woman who has written about recovering from Anorexia (which iirc has one of the highest fatality rates of any mental illness) knows about madness, and knows how not to be mad.

He does despise women doesn't he? And obviously feels very jealous of HF's skill and style and wit.

It must have been pretty hellish to be female with a father with those attitudes.

Slight derail, but a metaller friend of mine who's got into whisky enjoyed a review on a whisky-tasting forum, which gave Rammstein's rum 0 out of 5 for the ridiculous fail of not being called Rumstein.

Hadley has always been ascerbic as well as funny.
