Bristol Greens' ridiculous hostile anti-GC behaviour costs them dear in the council chamber...well done, that woman! Shero of the day.

Councillor quits Greens over City Hall trans protests

It puts the Greens back below half the councillors at City Hall

That statement from the Greens..... mad as a box of frogs. If the idea of women's rights and equalities even being mentioned makes someone feel that threatened and distressed, they need the care of a good therapist and not to be anywhere near positions of public responsibility. That fragility of mental health is not compatible, competency issues should mean removal.

Well done that woman, it's good to see there are some remaining people in post who have that kind of maturity and sense of responsibility in amongst the madness.

I did note too her idea that 'equality and respect' is for trans people..... but not apparently for women? She seems to be starting from the point of view that women have necessary 'equality and respect' and it's about how much should reasonably be taken away from them to give to these men.... which is not equality, is it? Or very 'respectful'. If you cannot 'respect' those men sufficiently without removing equality and respect from women, there's a very major problem with this whole demand in the first place and it's not coming from the women.

Again as usual no definition whatsoever on what she actually intends to mean by those throw away overused terms.

Yes, in BLACK BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS. 😂

Bigly letters?

And there's this he/him Green councillor openly showing his dislike of women and those constituents whose views he disagrees with -

'Good riddance to her, she is a TERF who wanted to simply cause issues internally (she isn't the saint that she claims to be externally). She shouldn't have been allowed to be a green councillor candidate and I'm glad the trash is taking itself out in this case.'

Again really confirming the Green party stand for nothing but adolescent batshit activism and are intent on driving out all members with a grain of sanity.

Just the level of professionalism that we expect from the Greens

Agree but their agenda is popular with students/adolescents and due to the change in voting age they could get more seats. It's actually quite scary. A green/lib/lab coalition could be so destructive for women's rights.

“Local politicians everywhere cannot be expected to stay in a room if they feel under attack for their very existence or for the existence of their colleagues.”
The hyperbole!

Frankly, whoever wrote / made /agrees with that statement is not fit to be in council. It translates to 'I will flounce if you don't agree with my every word'. One step short of 'I'll shcweam and shcweam until I'm shick!'

I hope every last one of them, barring the principled Councillor Paula O’Rourke, gets their arse handed to them at the next election. Their flouncing out amounts to a refusal to do the damned job. Fine. Then they need to get somebody else in to do it.

They should all be sacked, or whatever the process is for getting rid of public servants who pick and choose which section of the public they wish to serve and which section they wish to insult, ignore, and silence.

Waitwhat23 · 20/11/2025 08:58

They've also fallen into the same trap as the SNP with many of their elected representatives having no real world experience outside of politics, whether that is youth, student (NUS or similar) or straight in from University.

ArabellaSaurus · 20/11/2025 08:59

DrBlackbird · 19/11/2025 20:50

On radio 4 today, Zack Polanski was a panel member but had nothing substantial or informed to say on taxation and tried to make sweeping hyperbolic comments about inequity in the UK and Nick Robinson cut him off mid rant to say that might be a topic for another day but todays was specifically on taxation.

So Zack was quiet and had virtually nothing to add because he is so bloody uninformed on key political matters (like taxation) and can only resort to soundbites (tax the rich! Nationalise the water companies!) without explaining how the Greens are going to implement such policies.

Seems like stroppy teenagers are leading and running the party. It’s an utter crime when the UK desperately needs an effective environmental party.

That man is an embarrassment.

"Green Party councillors who held placards stating “trans women are women” in a council meeting did not breach their code of conduct because it was not “racist, homophobic or offensive”, according to officials."
I find their placards sexist and offensive.

Indeed.

ArabellaSaurus · 20/11/2025 09:00

'“Trans activist” placards were raised during a Bristol city council meeting this month whenever a member of the public asked a question about women’s safety'

Fucking hell.

ArabellaSaurus · 20/11/2025 09:02

ArabellaSaurus · 20/11/2025 08:59

Indeed.

Also arguably homophobic. 'Trans women are men' or the converse denies the reality of same sex attraction.

ItsCoolForCats · 20/11/2025 10:37

ArabellaSaurus · 20/11/2025 08:59

That man is an embarrassment.

I wonder if he used his tactic where he tries to tell the interviewer what they should be asking him, rather than answering what they are asking him. I'm glad Nick Robinson gave him short shrift.

I feel like Zack Polanski is riding the crest of a wave at the moment. However, if we were facing an election, the Greens would have to be able to address scrutiny about their policies. Soundbites and motivational speeches won't cut it then.

Hateful language. Calling people trash and vermin to dehumanise them is a tactic of hate groups.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 20/11/2025 10:56

Wholly agree.

And using such unprofessional, inappropriate language should be an immediate reason to remove someone from a post of any service or duty of public responsibility. It would not be acceptable for a teacher, nurse, doctor or police officer to announce that some of the people they serve are vermin and trash, it cannot be lower standards for those in positions of making decisions for an entire population group.

"can't feel safe ... when people are denying their very existence" - but no one is, no one is threatening them. When are the next council elections?

This safe thing is really disturbing. It seems to

Had a conversation with some people at work recently, including a new Gen Z employee who is very in gender ideology. We were discussing why people might not want to come to an NA meeting in a semi-public space like a library and why the more common church basement approach is better. Her feeling was that "but some people might not feel safe in a church." And could not seem to see that some sense of discomfort in a room at a church, but not anything to actually do with a church, is not the same as people worried their employer or MIL might see them at a meeting for addicts. Because both are about feeling unsafe, right?

It's all about the feeling, I guess, in this view, not the chance that your boss might actually think an addict might not be the best person to be driving a school bus or something, and you'd lose your job.

ginasevern · 20/11/2025 13:26

I'm a left leaning Bristolian woman. I was never that keen on Paula O'Rourke (various reasons, but nothing major). I've suddenly become her biggest fan. Nice one Paula. Bonus that you've reduced this pathetic bunch of women hating, dangerous children to a minority too.

Whilst I agree with your post overall, I do think that you're minimizing just how much some people absolute hate being in buildings that remind them of religion, or how much some peole hate the thought of the room costs for a room they are using being paid to a religious organization.

For most people - the vast majority - of course practical concerns like not being seen by your boss massively outweigh any dislike they might have towards religion.

akkakk · 20/11/2025 15:49

She is still listed on the Green Party website here:
https://bristolgreenparty.org.uk/councillor/paula-orourke/

but correctly shown on the Bristol Council website as independent here:
https://democracy.bristol.gov.uk/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=601

both list her council email address - I will be sending her an email of support / thanks.

Paula O'Rourke - Bristol Green Party

Paula O'Rourke is the Green Party Councillor for Clifton. She is standing again in 2024.

Such extreme emotional reactions to quite normal things, even things one has an issue with, are not healthy and they should be minimised.

Last time I saw his post, there were 49 replies and although the posts expressed astonished disbelief that he was speaking about a fellow councillor in such a contemptuous way, there wasn't personal abuse or similar to what women would have had in response.

If it was another party, I might have suspected that someone a bit more sensible had had a word but with the Greens, I suspect he's feeling mightly triggered at what he considers the lowly proles actually having the temerity to speak to him when he's not got the chance to hold up a sign or walk out in protest.

I'm sure you're right. I wonder how old he is? Many of the noisier Greens are really quite young and inexperienced, which I'm guessing is why they seem to behave like children not used to hearing the word No.

Edited

Just because religious indoctrination of kids against their consent year in year out through childhood is normal does not mean it should be legal, let alone regarded as normal.
