Transadmiral

The outrage over the fake admiral is intriguing me. His fancy dress and space-grabbing is comparable to that of men who help themselves to women’s spaces: he practices deception to access what he has no right to. Yet what he has been doing is considered a deeply offensive crime. I do not deny that his appropriation of medals is deeply offensive to the memory of people who actually earned those medals. It seems to be more offensive to many people than the actual harms done to actual women and children by men who practice deception.

More parallels.

When deception affects men, it’s outrageous. When it affects women, it’s inconsequential.

Rightsraptor · 15/11/2025 08:44

Not many people in the outside world would even make the comparison between the 'admiral' and men larping as women. We see it, of course.

I suppose one difference is that it is actually a crime to wear such a uniform if you aren't entitled to, whereas men can wear clothes more commonly associated with women without committing an offence and, indeed, many on here say they have no problem with it.

It's an interesting one.

Excellent point

Just been reading this & the irony!!!

NebulousSadTimes · 15/11/2025 10:51

That was my first thought when I heard about him on the news.

BunfightBetty · 15/11/2025 11:15

Where are all the Omnicausers shouting “Transadmirals ARE Admirals!”?

Surely Transadmiral rights should be the next cause added to the Progressive grab bag of ideals?

Is it a crime to wear the unearned uniform, or is it a crime to wear it in order to gain status by deception ?

You got that right.

If men larping as women did nothing more than wear dresses and makeup I wouldn't give a shit. They don't though - they take up space in areas set aside for women, sometimes illegally, which is where the parallel with the fake admiral comes

Under the Uniforms Act 1894 it's illegal to wear a British military uniform to which you are not entitled.

Thank you. Presumably an actor while working can do it. Presumably a person can do it in private.

But not in public, because even just dressing in a way that conveys false or misleading information might, deliberately or accidentally, deceive the public.

So, years of dressing as a woman, in his shop in Scotland, eventually gave one man the opportunity to capture and imprison a young girl. Or, a male, with male impulses twisting his s urges to make him want to kill, had been 'transformed' by puberty blockers, to a point where he resembled a female, and was thereby enabled to lure an unsuspecting man to violent death.

I've had to borrow that excellent rallying cry for my new username. Thank you!

Apparently the fake admiral wanted affirmation:

"BBC News asked Carley about his motivation - but he didn't comment.
In his police interview, he said he wanted a sense of "belonging and affirmation"."

Tadpolesinponds · 05/01/2026 17:52

Some of the background he's claimed has been verified. So he did teach history at a top private school and he was a successful rowing coach at Oxford. He claims to have been educated at both Harvard and Oxford and to have rowed for those universities. Presumably he was obsessed with status and the respect it confers and felt that he hadn't had enough status and respect in his life.

Chersfrozenface · 05/01/2026 18:00

The event that undid him wasn't his first rodeo. He'd been at the same event in 2024 and others larping as a rear admiral, according to the BBC.

"Pictures and videos posted online show that Llandudno is not the first place Carley had dressed as a rear admiral.

He has been pictured at other Remembrance services in north Wales since 2018, shortly after it is believed he moved to the area.

In one video, he appears to be giving a speech to the public in his full admiral's uniform, complete with sword, at a Rorke's Drift memorial event."

Like a slightly less creepy Dylan Mulvaney.
