American Christian pastors saying women shouldn't vote

After the Muslim fruitcake telling women to open their legs whenever their husbands want https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5421819-secular-society-new-report-religious-charities-promoting-misogyny

we now have two American Christian pastors saying women shouldn't vote.

This guy said women shouldn't vote, because they voted for a mayor of New York he doesn't like (the 19th amendment is the one which gave women the right to vote)

x.com/dalepartridge/status/1986083514580943272?s=42

This other guy said we should take away women's right to vote, because "their desires are wicked".

Remember, it's not Muslims in Afghanistan saying these things - it's Christians in the USA. https://x.com/rightresponsem/status/1986101502738305270

Joel Webbon (@rightresponsem) on X

Correct. Blaming women is pointless. As @dashiam41300 points out, the problem is women’s desires. Their desires are wicked. Solution: 👇 Take away women’s vote. Simple as.

To be fair, the USA has always had more than it's fair share of Christian nutters.

Rightsraptor · 13/11/2025 15:09

I'm not in the US and I'm not going to get too bothered about these eejits. There's plenty to do on Terf Island still.

But does he think no men at all voted for Mamdani?

nauticant · 13/11/2025 15:10

My guess is that it would be a proportion of Muslims in Afghanistan saying these things and a smaller proportion of Christians in the US saying similar.

lechiffre55 · 13/11/2025 15:20

Let's hope they don't start stabbing women, raping women, and mutilating women's genitals then.

Anactor · 13/11/2025 15:23

Never heard of either of them, so I looked them up. One has a congregation of about 120 people and the other has the 1689 London declaration on their home page. The entire London declaration on their home page.

Just because someone is on Xitter, it doesn’t mean they’re mainstream. Or popular.

The replies to both tweets are a joy to behold, btw.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 13/11/2025 16:03

I think this is the down side of the internet is it gives people this enormous platform and the more outrageous you are the more of a reaction.

Pre internet these men would have been annoying at best a few dozen people in the pub of an evening.

Can you share some pearls of wisdom? :) I cannot see the replies because I don't have a Twitter account

I think the issue is more nuanced than that. Yes, these nutjobs are not mainstream. But it's not just a deranged lunatic in a pub, these people run organisations which benefit from tax breaks. Giving tax breaks to organisations which convey these messages is wrong, no matter the size of the organisation.

The second point is that not all evangelicals are this crazy, but evangelicals are a political force in the US. The view that women shouldn't vote is a fringe view in that community, but the view that wives should submit to their husbands and "not neglect them" (codeword for open their legs whenever he wants) is not fringe at all among American evangelicals. And Evangelicals are not a tiny minority there.

The U.S.A in its earliest days was settled by many fleeing religious persecution in Europe - so this tendency to great religiosity, extreme sects and cults is very pronounced. It is in the DNA.

They're probably engagement farming. Someone asked Grok how much Helen Webberly would be generating from her batshit tweets and Grok estimated something like between $2,000 and $10,000 a month.

The USA were settled by religious crazies whom 17th century Europeans found too crazy! OK, I'm over-simplifying, but you get the gist

Remember that they even banned Christmas at some point, because they saw it as a sinful celebration

In the USA, freedom of religion means freedom of the churches from the State.

In France, freedom of religion and secularism (laicité) means freedom of the citizens FROM religion.
Big difference.

It is no coincidence that some US states still have a Constitutional ban against atheists holding office. Such bans are now unenforceable, but they are still in the statute!!!

A politician admitting they are not religious would stand NO chance in the US. None at all.

I agree with you, and I take exception to the. Calling themselves Christians, too.

CForCake · 13/11/2025 16:43

Oh, another thing is that in about 30 US states child marriage is still legal. There have been cases of Christian Republican politicians opposing a ban because.... it would increase abortions!!!

https://www.unchainedatlast.org/survivor-stories/

This shit doesn't happen only in religious contexts, but there seems to be a certain correlation...

@damemaggiescurledupperlip I agree with you, and I take exception to the. Calling themselves Christians, too.

the beauty of religion is that the same holy book can be interpreted to mean anything and its opposite. The pro-slavery and the anti-slavery were both Christians reading the same Bible, after all

I think that in England the age for marriage was increased to 18 a couple of years ago. In Northern Ireland it is still legal for minors to marry https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn401p3ewpno

America has a large number of nutters, we have some here too, of varying faiths. Perhaps he should be reminded that Christ said you should treat people the way you'd like to be treated - so we can remove his vote then.

Evangelicals tend to focus on the Old Testament. Christ had some harsh words for scribes and pharisees and they could probably be applied to some evangelicals. Fortunately evangelical Christians are not a political force here.

Treaclewell · 13/11/2025 17:07

Women's desires are wicked !!!!????
So rape and violence against them are not? And theft and murder are not? Men's desires are all perfectly in accord with God's intentions? I thonk I know who this man's god is.

CForCake · 13/11/2025 17:27

Of course they are! What, are you telling me you didn't know your desires were wicked? Off to a good Christian bible college in the Bible belt you go!

The other guy says on his Twitter account that he wrote "The manliness of Christ" and is the founder of manhood.org https://manhood.org/

A one-year program for men to build wealth, love their families, and leave a godly legacy.

because

The church has neglected masculine discipleship in business, finance, and legacy building. This program aims to address that.

And all for 12 monthly payments of $200//month! A bargain! It would be a great gift for your husband! Because you are married, surely you don't live in sin, right?

Do have a look at the program - there is a section on "Biblical patriarchy".

It would be almost funny if it weren't tragic.

This guy reminds me of Jordan Peterson, trying to give a seal of legitimacy to manosphere bullshit.

BTW, I can't get out of my head the fact that this Dale Partridge has the same surname as our Alan Partridge!!

Also, could I maybe interest you in the website ForTheGospel, which explains how to be a godly wife. It starts with:

  1. A godly wife is submissive

because "the head of a wife is her husband"

Nearer to home, there is a political party in the Netherlands who only recently accepted that women could be candidates.

They're two sides of the same lunatic coin. Watch them in the coming years unite and bond over their mutual hatred of uppity women. As soon as they manage to successfully suppress every vestige of women's freedom they will turn on each other, cue bloodbath.

dottiehens · 13/11/2025 17:36

Well I would say that any person voting for the new mayor should not allow to vote. 😂 I always thought New Yorkers were street wise but this really shows they are not. Naïveté at its best. Now about the misogynist there are many all over the countries. Here there are plenty.

Yes dottie, we know how much you loathe the idea of people in cities you don't live in voting for muslim mayors, you bang on about it at any opportunity.

Not forgetting that a large part of the sucess of this candidate was done by the Aunties. Sensible middle aged women who thought their power as a group should be put to getting him elected to create a better future.
