It's definitely on the up in terms of accuracy and openness. Can just about bear to read it again.

That sounds reasonably balanced. H. Belcher is cross that they won’t give him special treatment. Oh dear sad times.

katmarie · 03/11/2025 21:18

Im sorry what? A 12 hour meeting?!

And the whole montiom seems to be meaningless identity politics nonsense.

[It] has been introduced to clearly affirm that, under the new administration, Wiltshire Council remains fully supportive of our LGBTQIA+ community and the diverse nature of our population."

I mean, on a practical, functional basis, what does that even mean?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/11/2025 21:23

12 hours to get mr belcher to accept no - imagine how wearying working with him must be

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/11/2025 21:41

Isn't it interesting finally seeing organisations telling these activists "NO".
Until very recently they've had complete control. Men in changing rooms with girls and women - crack on. Remove the transphobic language of women from health and maternity care - of course. Dismantle safeguarding children to allow dodgy adults to gaslight children into believing sex change is for children - why not. On and on.....

Finally people are finding the courage to tell them NO. But my, don't they whinge?

Toseland · 03/11/2025 22:25

I don't get attacked because I'm a human being, I get attacked because I'm trans because some people don't think trans people like me should exist'.
I would suggest you don't get "attacked" because you are human or because you declare yourself "trans" but because you are actively working to remove others rights, people disagree with you and you are a right royal pain in the ass?
Posie must be really chuffed; I think this is her council!

PersonIrresponsible · 03/11/2025 22:38

I "get attacked" because I'm female. Or because speak differently from others. Or because of my hair colour. Skin colour. Beliefs....

The list goes on.

We all "get attacked".

But hey, you can claim top bragging rights if it makes you feel better.

I’d be surprised if anyone has ever attacked him (I hope they haven’t). I think he was the one on Woman’s Hour that claimed he was as likely to be raped as the female guest. I think I detected a sharp intake of breath. He looks at least 6’.

Me in women's facilities

Toutafait · 04/11/2025 00:12

"Annabelle Sanderson, the Wiltshire chair of Conservative Women, listed achievements in women's rights, including the right to seek divorce in 1857, the right to go to university and sit on a jury in 1919, and the right to vote in 1928.
Despite this record our rights are at risk again. On April 16 2025 our Supreme Court ruled that sex in the Equality Act referred to biological sex."
She said this ruling protected women-only spaces including refuges, changing rooms, and toilets.
"Yet despite the ruling, Wiltshire Council is debating a motion to fully support the LGBTQIA+ community.
"Nowhere in this motion are the words woman or women mentioned. This motion is trying to swerve the law to indulge in a fantasy that a man can become a woman."
And Trowbridge-based international women's rights activist Kelly-Jay Keen said: "We are told that inclusion demands unisex facilities or that men who identify as women pose no risk. This simply isn't true."

"Trowbridge-based international women's rights activist Kelly-Jay Keen"

Nice! It's about time she started getting the respect she deserves.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2025 00:51

The regional reporters may well have a different perspective to the central folk. In this case the piece is by the BBC Wiltshire political reporter; if this sort of incident made it to national level I’d guess it would have been handled by the ‘LGBT correspondent’….typically not unbiased.

I was thinking the same thing, I had to read it twice just to believe it, usually it's the 'far right', 'bigoted' 'anti-trans' etc activist.

PersonIrresponsible · 10/11/2025 12:42

Well, whilst I'm glad I detected a sea-change, I am mildly bemused that it's because there was a scandal in the brewing that was driving the change...

And when I say "mildly bemused", I mean menopausally furious at the BBC. Same modus operandi "of nothing to see here"...

Which gets me wondering - if you only feed up when the facts are undeniable, what the hell else you got going on?
