Racially aggravated rapes and attacks in Midlands

Disturbing news.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czxkw014rg9o

'...several Asian women in the West Midlands [...] tell the BBC they're now constantly looking over their shoulder. ...
That's because within the space of two months and taking place only 10 miles (16km) apart, police have received reports of two racially aggravated rapes.
Early on 9 September, a Sikh woman in her 20s was raped on Tame Road in Oldbury.
And on the evening of 25 October in the Park Hall area of Walsall, another Sikh woman who is also in her 20s was raped. A 32-year-old man named John Ashby has been charged.
In both cases perpetrators were unknown to their victims.
Another woman was assaulted with an electrical stun device in Wolverhampton on 27 October in what police said was a racially aggravated physical - but not sexual - assault.'

A woman in a black sweater stands behind a counter and looks at the camera. A gold telephone, two cards and a white plant are on the desk. Two gold letters - 'r' and 'p' are hung up on the wall alongside a certificate.

I think I am surprised that in terms of crime statistics race in not recorded.

I dont mean this new media reporting of instantly saying the ethnicity of both perpetrator and victims.

But for national statistics, surely this is important. And isn't that one of the points of having a census.

If the can keep statistics on the age of rape victims (showing younger women are more at risk) why aren't the also recording race.

The point being to show whether women from any particular group are more likely to be victims of rape, in relation to the census record of the size of that ethnic group in the UK.

After reading all the disgusting Huntingdon threads, I find it fascinating that there is just one thread with only 9 replies about this rape attack - which was reported in the news a week ago. So so fascinating.

I was going to post it on one of the threads but I don’t think they would understand my point. Those threads were despicable.

Sadly it is worth remembering, that not just in areas of conflict, women have always been the victims of sexual abuse and attacks as a way to insult the opposing males, as much as to humiliate and hurt the woman herself.

Call me an optimist, but perhaps the reporting of the racially aggravated nature of the crimes is a step forward.

Perhaps we’ve stopped trying to hide the dynamics of such awful crimes- white blokes targeting brown women, brown men targeting white girls, etc- in favour of transparency.

Hopefully transparency will deflate the energy of the conspiracy theorists, and defuel reform et all.

Ideally we’ll also report accurately the crimes of men with trans identities.

Data are neutral. Let the facts stand or fall.

V good point.

Seeing women as objects rather than as humans in their own right is often at the heart of the various different ways men choose to hurt us.

Yes sadly, still in this day and age, as a possession of men.

Transparency and evidence is generally a Good Thing.

Unfortunately, though, data and its uses are not always neutral - the mess of the last census shows what happens when people with political motivations screw things up.

I agree, but that was bad data caused by bias.

A flyer for the walk said: "A community gathering to unite together against misogyny, discrimination and violence. We invite people of all background to come together to show we will not be divided by fear or hatred."

The 'Stop The Hate' unity walk will take place at 3pm on Sunday, November 16, at Sister Dora, The Bridge, Walsall.

Surwat Sohail, of Roshni Birmingham, said: “We are saying loud and clear stop using violence against women and girls to push political, racial, or ideological agendas.

"Women’s safety must never be used as a tool for hate.”

Just thought I would post this from a newspaper report.

I cant find anything online about the march. It maybe, that as the article says, info is being shared by leaflet. Which in terms of out reach to local women may be more effective than wondering which if any sm platform to use.

It's not just up to the government to try and reduce the temperature or reduce division it's for all of us. So if a colleague is nervous accompany them or give them a lift home when you can. If someone is having drink thrown at them and you see it give the occupants of the car your opinion of them. Dont call them racist, they wont care so call them something like worthless twats or stupid fuckers. Alternative insult suggestions welcomed.

It also means when the performative virtue signalling are raising the temperature by spreading misinformation you counteract that misinformation.

The one man charged to date is described as of "no fixed address". I've seen that before and wonder just how common it is in this type of crime.

I dont know what else we can do.

Pretty sure the Huntington murderer was no fixed abode, too.
