Engender believes that trans women are women and has hit out at Scottish Government plans to include sex in its hate crime legislation, as it doesn't include trans women.

Glad to hear it, Igneo! Scotland needs as many sensible people as possible, whatever the state of our politics.

I don't understand the stupidity of the SNP. Is it genuinely ideological, or is it just self-serving and short-termist? For instance, they have been going all-out to encourage Scottish children to transition, and to be a place that is welcoming to trans people (so that some trans people have moved to Scotland). I read through their proposed policy on NHS treatment for trans people when they were consulting on it (has this been brought in?). It could be summarised as: "Doctors are there to listen to what the trans person wants and then to do it. The trans person knows what treatment they need." So what's the likely outcome of all this? A high proportion of the population being trans and demanding / needing lots of expensive medical treatment at a time when the NHS in Scotland is in complete melt-down, with very long waits for treatment, even for cancer. Focusing on trans issues and their deteriorating bodies rather than contributing to society as they could if not focused on that one thing. Increasing resentment from the rest of society as they see trans people being treated preferentially, and as disagreement is clamped down on through the Hate Crime Act etc. A loss of trust in government and the education system. And a few years down the line, there's a high likelihood of big group claims against the NHS for "treating" healthy bodies, leaving those people with lifelong medical issues. So again, less money for treating patients. How on earth can the SNP think that all this is to the benefit of Scotland?

They ain't no feminists bro

they identify as feminists, tho

So in the way that men who identify as women aren't women, they aren't feminists.

So it may be that the SNP are putting on a show in putting this forward, the plan being that after "extensive consultation" of SNP-funded groups only they will take the consultation on board and decide not to go ahead.
I have mixed feelings, to be honest. I think the Hate Crime Act is a terrible piece of legislation, designed to clamp down on free speech, and I therefore don't like the idea of extending it.

that is a good point, but if it is going to exist, i want it to include sex. Realistically it is not going to vanish. (also, if i'm being realisting, it won't happen so we'll be stuck with the big hot mess)
