The Taliban reportedly barred women journalists from attending a press event of visiting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in India, drawing anger from a wide section of Indian reporters, activists, and politicians.

The women journalists, including this reporter for The Independent, who had gathered outside the Afghanistan embassy in Delhi on Friday, were stopped by the security staff and Delhi Police officials from attending the event despite multiple requests.

Govt has dishonoured every single Indian woman by allowing Taliban minister to exclude women journalists from presser. Shameful bunch of spineless hypocrites.

Is this where they were trying to get an agreement for Indian workers to work in Afghanistan? Why does India always try to export workers like this? What do they expect with a country like that?

Strange situation for sure

Afghanistan is the only country in the world not allowing women to be educated. I think this is one of those times when the extremism of the Taliban might well bring about real change for women in the developing world and not before time. India is a powerful country and will probably be one of the few countries that can turn around this appalling discrimination

They probably won't, though.

Exactly. That's why I added in the OP the quote from the woman journalist in India.

As we all know from the UK women's rights are not universally respected, and are only allowed when not an inconvenience to men.

And whilst I am disturbed that women journalists visiting some Muslim countries are required to adhere to a dress code, I dont think there has ever been an occasion when women in their own country are told them have to conform to the beliefs of visiting delegation.

What happens if they ever visit a country where the Prime Minister is a woman?

@IwantToRetire They'll probably declare her an honorary man. For instance, women can't enter politics because their poor intellect and physical weaknesses (eg the effect on a woman of monthly periods) mean that she's not capable of doing the job. But Margaret Thatcher did the job, and was widely regarded as being very capable. Therefore she was not a real woman, but a one-off exception to the norm. She was, essentially, a man, and could be treated as such.

I think the world should cut them off.

Well it sort of has hasn't it.

So was quite surprised to see there had been a delegation.

But as I am not well informed about how thes countries in the region interact with each other, they may have other concerns.

Some info here, and maybe as much as currently both currents are negative towards Pakistan.

Interesting. So it turns about Taliban males can survive being in a room with women who speak out loud and ask questions. Shame they cant accept they could do this is their own country.
