CSE solicitor claims Rotherham police force covered up abuse - Operation Amazon

On Friday, the IOPC published more details about its Operation Amazon investigation which, in 2022, upheld a 2017 complaint that "senior officers failed in their statutory responsibilities to protect children".

The IOPC said the complaint was upheld "on the basis that over a number of years it appeared that South Yorkshire Police had actionable intelligence which senior officers could and should have addressed and taken responsibility for, but there was no coordinated response".

It said: "It was our view that this was a systemic organisational failure, as opposed to the failings of individuals.
"We could not identify a named individual who had responsibility for these matters, and therefore this could not be viewed as a conduct issue."

The IOPC said it instead blamed "a collective failure of the senior leadership team in their statutory responsibilities to protect children".

Well I guess it's quite convenient for the individual senior officers, not one of them is accountable for the failing of the south Yorkshire police service

Hmmm… South Yorkshire Police — the very same force that handled Hillsborough. The same culture of denial, lack of accountability, and senior leaders refusing to take responsibility. Families and victims are left to carry the consequences, while the institutions close ranks. Plus ça change.

The top brass are responsible for not having adequate policies and procedures in place.

Or so would be the case in a private enterprise…

I wouldn’t be surprised if the senior police got away with it, though.

It’s like the inertia, the lack of expectations for girls, was so ingrained across the board that there’s no one to blame.

They aren't the only police force either. Greater Manchester were as bad. Whoopee they've since apologised, well that's alright then lads we'll forget all about it.

West Yorkshire were pretty much the same...
