Interview with maya and a very scrubbed clean drag queen. He as anyone seen it? I thought Andrew was supposed to be a good journalist but it felt like he was patronising women for being shouty.

Just saw it. Marr trotting out the old “shouting from both sides” argument. More lazy journalism

SternJoyousBeev2 · 05/09/2025 23:24

Only listened to the bit with Maya. Disappointed that he clearly hasn’t read the actual tweet and only seemed to be reacting to the screeching nonsense opinions about the tweet. How he could in good faith compare the tweet to actual threats of violence is beyond me. Especially with this controversy coming a day after the Queen is praised for her recounting an occasion of following her mother’s advice and connecting the heel if get shoe to the bollocks of an abuser.

deadpan · 06/09/2025 08:15

Where's the story about the queen been printed?

Andrew Marr is to journalism what Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell are to politics.

Thanks guys. Not sure why I posted - just think I’m so disappointed with most of the journalism these days. I really thought someone like mart would do a bit of research, and I’m so so fed up with the ‘shouting from both sides’ when he clearly means to me, anyway, that women are being the shouty ones. Grrr.

Very disappointing. It seems he has decided he no longer needs to make any effort to do his research.

hholiday · 07/09/2025 23:06

’shouty from both sides’ I take to mean ‘I am scared of the crazy blokes in frocks with their threats of violence too. But I’m not going to admit to this and, anyway, if they go into women’s loos etc, it’s no skin off my nose’.

Brainworm · 07/09/2025 23:18

I suspect that hosts/ interviewers who make time to discuss the ‘noise’ and ‘tone’ of the debate do so as a strategy to avoid engaging in the substantive content. TRAs love this as they too don’t want to engage in the substantive issues

He's hopeless...

... but not that hopeless!

So why was Graham Lineham arrested for giving this advice? Knee them in the nuts is the advice usually given to women about an unwanted man in their space - after shouting loudly and calling the police (who won't have arrived yet).

It's unconscious recognition that the speaker believes that TW are men. Behaviour that is considered assertive in men is considered aggressive in women. So men shouting are shouting, whereas women just need to rape their voices a little louder or speak a little more firmly - and they are 'shouting'.

genandtonic · 11/09/2025 20:01

Yup, agree with you jellysaurus it’s amazing. I foolishly tried to get my brother to understand the terf pov after his niece got radicalized, but no, I wasn’t allowed to be cross or question it as I was suddenly too shouty. Lost, confused maybe but not allowed to be emotional because, trans.
Grrrrr.
