NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #53

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence was 29 July 2025. It resumed again over 1 to 2 September for closing submissions.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February 2025. Sandie Peggie returned to give more evidence on 29 July 2025.

Access to view the second part of the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected].

The hearing was live tweeted by x.com/tribunaltweets and there's additional information here: tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr-005 and tribunaltweets.substack.com/p/peggie-vs-fife-health-board-and-dr-bd6. "Trans people are stupid" - do you have a source for this or is it just another puerile insult pulled out the collective arse of this board?

What is this board’s collective arse? Or is it who?

Its the bit at the back after the board's collective lady hole (a real one not an imaginary one)....

Front hole, not lady hole, if you please.

(/s, just in case…)

Those dated terms are transphobic (I'm guessing here but as everything is transphobic🤷‍♀️) I think it's now a bonus hole.

I say, this has taken a turn.

Should we crack this out. I saved it as I love it so much but middle age prevents me recalling who created it to assign credit. Sorry!

Have cleverer people with more time here ever looked at what brings out this sort of commenter? Do they lurk waiting or do they join at certain events?

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 11/09/2025 14:23

I’m not sure! Experience, having been here a while albeit under different names, tells my it’s a mix of things.

Sometimes Reddit gets wind of us talking about something and thinks they should chip in.

Sometimes someone sees comments from mumsnet and comes to look for offence.

But we definitely also have “monitors” the sort watching threads ready to report. My feel is they’re small in number, and just haunt here, waiting to be able to take offense. Occasionally trying to rile us.

Then there are the regular ploppers.

you could probably make a Mr Man style book out of it.

It’s pleasing to know they don’t get as much of a rise as they used to. Mostly the threads here a pretty attuned to this nonsense nowadays, and can tell honest engagement from baiting.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/09/2025 14:51

Agree with that assessment, @EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin

BendoftheBeginning · 11/09/2025 16:43

Well let’s face it @EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin, we’ve heard the same nonsensical talking points so many times now it’s actually a little boring. And the heat’s been slowly draining out of the fight in the U.K. now that the SC has confirmed that women have just as many rights as transwomen do. It’s just a positive vibe all round here, really.

I cant remember who originally said they needed a sign with it on, but I did oblige.

It has friends now...

I needed that laugh. As I am a newcomer I don't know if the beetle thing came from some slur from "activists". Conversely I despair at news today from US. The interrupterons can clearly see noone on this thread has ever wished any harm on anyone. We are just saying we are women/female/xx. Inescapable biological fact.

I hope 'beetle' isn't a slur!

My sister found me lying on the pavement one hot summers afternoon back in the 70s waving my arms and legs in the air:

Sister: what are you doing?
Me: I'm being a beetle
Sister: a girl beetle or a boy beetle?
Me: a boiled beetle.

An acceptable use of spare Crocs!

I hope the Tunnocks aren't structural though as I'll be eating them later.

Bannedontherun · 11/09/2025 19:18

I would like to say that Trans rights activists and trans people in general would be incapable of representing wider societal issues such as poverty traps, disability discrimination, women's rights regarding health care, etc etc etc, i could fill up the thread with examples.…

The other thing i have learnt over the years is that politicians are a bit thick, generally speaking, that is why they have advisors. Our Kier appears particularly prone to not being able to express his own opinion, and i say that as party member

Well here's to you continuing as a (that was imaginative) boiled beetle with all your magic imagery skills

I'm not sure what they are, but you're welcome to try eating them.

I was in an M&S food store yesterday, & the only product I saw that wasn't M&S branded was a display of Tunnocks Caramel Wafers. Was it you, sneaking them into M&S's across the country?

Fortunately the men who consider themselves women are generally not.clever enough to be MPs. And I doubt they would win enough MP nominations to get on the ballot.

Yes, well... your average voter on the streets tends to be put off somewhat by screeching, ranting lunatics, with a tenuous grip on reality.

Wellll, the whole question:

"What can you do for your constituents?" being answered with:

"I want to be paid £150,000 to screech at people, bully women and force my way into the ladies, because I'm a BIOLOGICAL WOMAN!" tends to focus people's minds.

Bannedontherun · 11/09/2025 21:33

I am re watching our Micheal Foran’s analysis in all it’s glorious detail, now with a cool head and a clear eye.

It has so much detail it is worth a second watch.

Am curious as to why there is sudden radio silence at the moment.

Me thinks the inner coven (of witches and warlocks) are busy working out a strategy, linking key cases, to kill this movement, legally speaking once and for all.

I hope so.

Suzanne Moore has an article that starts on the murder of Charlie Kirk. I thought I'd link it here where it might be read

https://archive.ph/pRvts

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/09/11/charlie-kirk-killing-intolerant-left/

This bit makes it a better fit for this thread

The truth is that anyone who wants to debate or challenge Left-wing orthodoxy in Britain also faces risks, from losing their jobs to constant verbal abuse and serious physical threats. Women who are deemed “gender critical” receive threats of assault, rape and death.
