"Trans identified male" - there's hope for the BBC yet

Oh dear, the transes are very upset about this. They're all "sad times" and "literal genocide".

I heard this phrase on the Radio 4 news yesterday. And here it is in black and white, on the BBC news report. This would never have happened a year ago, when TWWstillW.

The first post, from his X feed, called it a "violent, abusive act" for a trans-identified male to be in a female-only space. He suggested: "Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails punch him in the balls."

Their attempts to control the language and thoughts of everyone in society never ends does it?

Britinme · 03/09/2025 15:33

There's hope yet. Does anybody know the address to write to at the BBC in support of using a phrase like "trans-identified male" for accuracy's sake? I note that the TRAs will be reacting in full force against it.

Indeed. And what they're fewmin about is that it's a BBC journalistic expression, not a quote from the antiChrist Glinner.

It's rather funny they tried to ban this tweet via police and now it's posted on the BBC. Rare moment I'm proud to be British .

Helleofabore · 03/09/2025 15:38

Oh wow.

And I wonder how long before it is changed. I reckon it will have changed by 5 pm.

Shortshriftandlethal · 03/09/2025 15:41

Those are Graham's words though, aren't they...not those of the BBC reporter?

No. They're not in quotes. That's what riling the TIMs.

That's the term Glinner used. If the BBC had used 'man' then trans activists would have complained that the journalist had ignored the fact that this was aimed at 'transpeople' specifically. If the BBC had used 'transwomen' then the activists would have to accept that everyone understands transwomen and trans-identifying males to be one and the same. The BBC have gone with the easy option. Ain't no pleasing them, as Chas and Dave said

They might not have put the whole thing in speech marks...but those were Graham's words.

Charabanc · 03/09/2025 15:47

Yes. They were his words. And now they are the BBC's words as well.

It's not a "quote". That's the point.

"Yes. They were his words. And now they are the BBC's words as well."

I'm confused. Those were Graham's words and the reporter was just repeating them. So does the same apply whenever the BBC quotes anyone (Trump or Putin for example). Do their words also become the words of the BBC?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/09/2025 16:25

My bet would be they reword it as a direct quote.

only words within quotation marks are quotes. Echoing the terms someone uses outside of quotes implies acceptance of those terms.

Ah, OK.

Justme56 · 03/09/2025 16:37

Do they really think changing it to transwoman sounds better considering the topic in the tweet is about testicles?

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 03/09/2025 16:51

I'm pretty sure they will add the hazchem protection gloves (aka quote marks).

The Guardian has worn the same gloves.

bonfireoftheverities · 03/09/2025 18:03

It has indeed been changed, with the whole thing now in quotes. Archive of the way it was before: https://archive.ph/l1NBQ

In the original, the BBC used a closely following indirect quote to improve flow which invoked the same TIM formulation that Glinner had used in the direct quote. 🥀🥀 naughty, naughty. 😡 They've now changed it to a direct quote, bringing the sentence into compliance with the strictures of TRA political correctness. 🧐

Original:
The first post, from his X feed, called it a "violent, abusive act" for a trans-identified male to be in a female-only space. He suggested: "Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails punch him in the balls."

Revised:
The first post, from his X feed, said: "If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls."
