My thanks and admiration for these wonderful women grows with every new action they take. Bravo.

KilkennyCats · 16/08/2025 21:06

Fantastic! Fair play to them.

BundleBoogie · 16/08/2025 21:09

That Scottish government REALLY don’t want to comply with the law.

I wonder if losing this case will actually make them change the policies and where would it leave us if they refuse?

They aren't the only ones.

This could have implications for other parts of the UK!

SidewaysOtter · 16/08/2025 21:56

Excellent. Is any gardening required? Maybe some neeps or tatties?

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 16/08/2025 22:25

These women are amazing, we thank you FWS for continuing to fight for us 🥰

I met Trina at a women's rights festival earlier this year, she's so unassuming and just a general laid back, amazing woman. I'm in awe of all three of them and all they've achieved. Happy to garden whenever needed.x

EweSurname · 16/08/2025 22:33

So much respect for these women, and so much contempt for a government who refuses to follow the law and protect women and girls. Truly awful it has come to this but brava that FWS and leaping into the breach once more.

If they refuse they will be on contempt of crt.
Could the judge jail them? or just fine them? I know that in a criminal case you can be jailed does anyone know if it's the same for a civil case

NeverOneBiscuit · 16/08/2025 23:23

Bloody marvellous ! 💪

roseyposey · 16/08/2025 23:31

Oh yes please!!! Fantastic news!

Happy to donate towards neeps and tatties (even though I don’t like them) (missing point)

💐

FWS are such an inspiration - I'm so grateful to them. I haven't got much atm but they're welcome to it!

Just donated to this, it’s so important.

ItsCoolForCats · 17/08/2025 07:55

How can the Scottish government justify spending money defending this, rather than just, you know, following the law? There was a lot of anger at NHS Fife for spending so much money defending their case. The Scottish Government really need to read the room.

The article in the Times suggests they are delaying updating their guidance so they don't upset the self ID proponents with the SNP and cause a rift before the elections next year. I really hope this bites them in the arse and the electorate punish them for this.

ArabellaScott · 17/08/2025 08:06

So absurd that women have to threaten the govt with court just to get them to follow the fucking law.

Bring it.

NewBlueNoteBook · 17/08/2025 08:09

FWS makes me so proud to be Scottish.

FWS have tied their legal challenge timing to the protest they are having at Scottish Parliament at 11am on Thurs 4th September which is when the Scottish government's time runs out. So if they are still acting illegally the protest will mark it.

Ash Regan MSP

Well scotgov - you can't say you weren't warned.

Stop prevaricating! Women's Rights matter - follow the law!

OhBuggerandArse · 17/08/2025 09:33

I've just been trying to look up what happens if the government doesn't comply with the law. You can proceed to a judicial review (well, they've done that and won); or the government's actions can be scrutinised by Parliament (the opposition have tried that; to not much effect as far as I can see). After that - all I can see is that the rule of law is undermined, destabilising the political system - but if politicians have already apparently given up on the idea that they are bound by the law or the system, will they really care? It all feels as if they are fiddling while Rome burns, and that the stakes are maybe even higher than we realise.

Yes, this is how it feels. I guess public pressure and bad publicity could have an impact but there has to be some consequences for this.

I’m wondering if prorogation forces an election? Is that a desirable course of action or too destructive in other ways? Can Westminster step in as this involves the Equality Act on a mass scale?

I hope do. I can hardly believe how many organisations and institutions are blatantly breaking the law, and saying they intend to go on doing so.

Bring on all the legal cases and tribunals.

There's an election due anyway, but I can't see this (however awful it is) having much impact - the lack of willingness to vote for alternative parties (for all sorts of reasons) is too far baked in. My prediction is a massive fall in turn-out, with the SNP winning again by default, and then on we go just the same. And I don't think Swinney will be particularly bothered by that - he'll have done his caretaking job, he'll hand over to Stephen Flynn or (even worse) the robotic foetus Mairi McAllan, both of whom will still be in thrall to the GI activists, and then everyone will sit back and continue managing decline for another term and the electorate will be powerless to do anything.
