Congratulations Sharron! I’m sure she will be using this role to continue her work highlighting the problems of gender identity.

Sharron Davies among three nominated to become Conservative peers.

Sharron Davies among three nominated to become Conservative peers

The swimmer and gender-critical campaigner has previously praised the Tory leader Kemi Badenoch as one of the first ministers to ‘push back against woke’

I wish she were described as "swimmer, women's rights and sports equality campaigner".

I agree with this but am so delighted to see her there!

Feel like the tide may be slowly turning and she is fabulous.
Articulate and passionate.

And she bravely stood up and put her neck on the line to speak on behalf of women and girls when the madness "be kind" was at it's peak!

So happy she will have a bigger platform-she deserves it!!

wantmorenow · 13/08/2025 15:58

Fantastic news

EasternStandard · 13/08/2025 16:07

Great, well done!

NHSFifeSadTimes · 13/08/2025 16:13

Excellent choice! An Olympic championship level swimmer who understands sport and the importance of female participation 💪🏻🥇🥈🥉

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/08/2025 21:23

Isn't that great news? So well deserved and great to have another strong woman there to counter all the privileged women with their luxury belief so busy throwing women and girls under the bus.

Gffbjjgfddbjkkm · 13/08/2025 21:25

Just a shame that she's in the nasty party.

Just remind me; who is the nice party?

Just a shame that she's in the nasty party.

She wouldn't have been allowed to speak if she was in the labour, lib dem or green parties. She would have been cancelled and hounded out of all of them as has happened to most women (and men) speaking out about women's rights, child safeguarding and men in women's sport.

Make of that what you will.

As opposed to which other party exactly? There not exactly a massive choice of parties standing up for women and even if the govt is starting to get its house in order it’s taken a bloody long time. Labour was perfectly happy to hang women out to dry before the Supreme Court intervened, with plenty of their MPs still disinclined to accept the law.

No, she's a Tory

NotMyRealAccount · 13/08/2025 21:52

So pleased. She is so articulate, fearless and well informed.

Just a shame that she's in the nasty party.

I think Reform are siding with the SNP, Greens, Lib Dems, Plaid and Labour over the derangement of believing that people can actually change sex.

Labour?

I'm really pleased there will be another (brave and loud) voice standing up in the Lords for women and girls. Much as I don't believe in peerages, I am glad Sharron will have one. Her views on other issues, such as Net Zero, however, are not in line with mine at all - I so wish green (with a small g) voices were not also misogynist.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/08/2025 14:08

Excellent! This could be Badenoch’s one enduring positive legacy, whatever else people think of her.

Yes I totally agree. Fantastic choice! Many
congratulations to Sharron (from this non Conservative voter) I could not be more pleased for this news.

Slothtoes · 14/08/2025 07:40

I’ve become a real believer in peerages ;from seeing the track record of all of the main parties, every party, has either not been supportive of women’s rights and/or actively working to undermine them. We have to rely on the unelected House of Lords to be the grown ups now, specifically because it is unelected and unworried about the popular vote. I feel in this volatile age politically that we’ll always need the peers to speak out against the excesses when Ministers and MPs become politically distant from equality, science, reality, rationality and normal standards of medical and political ethics and human rights. I am delighted to have Sharron Davies as part of that she is a fantastic brain and public communicator

I agree. I have recently moved towards being in favour of an unelected house. Obviously there are some who shouldn't be there but there must be a way of getting people with talent and wisdom into politics who can hold a long term view.

DuesToTheDirt · 14/08/2025 23:49

I have been in favour of the House of Lords for a long time. Ideologically I feel I ought to be against them, but they have a lot of knowledgeable people working to improve many areas of British life, from issues affecting disabled people to the right to protest. And they can sometimes put a brake on the more extreme suggestions from the House of Commons.

ThatBlackCat · 14/08/2025 23:54

I'm Labour but unless most of Labour make femphobia and misogyny persona non grata in their party among the HOC members - there are too many 'Labour' members who absolutely seethingly HATE womens rights - then I'm ok with this. I worry about what most of her policies are, but I'm grateful she will be there to push womens rights.

Don't forget, Baroness Nicholson is a Tory.

Amazing! Congratulations to Sharron ❤️

This is nice to hear, but it’s a shame she’s a Tory

Or you could see it as a good thing, given that it’s unlikely any of the other parties would have nominated her for a place in the HoL.

ThePoshUns · 16/08/2025 18:21

Unfortunately the Labour party have yet to confirm what a woman is

illinivich · 16/08/2025 18:33

There's little chance lib dems, labour, or greens would give a women with sharrons views on gender and voice in politics, so its good that she is a tory.
