Should we spend our money elsewhere? Why should we choose businesses who are anti GC eg M&S

Countdown2023 · 10/08/2025 22:34

Lots of businesses, especially retailers, rely upon female spending power.

Given that retailers like M&S have clearly decided that they are not kind on women with the introduction of gender neutral toilets and changing rooms, maybe it is time that we voted by taking our money elsewhere.

M&S also have the infamous bra advert about ‘fearless young things’ which they apologised for and withdraw but it paints a picture of how M&S feel about their core customers.

At the end of the day they need our money.

I get my bras from Pour Moi - really helpful if you email them for advice and much better quality than M&S. A bit more money but well worth it, especially if you need a bit of extra support.

Lordy, I haven’t bought or used nestlé since being a teenager 40+ years ago! I used to love Caramacs and Milky Bars…

Same.

I buy undies at M&S. What's a good alternative? I live in the Midlands.

uniqlo - great undies

Same.

I still avoid Nestle, but they own so many other companies now it's hard to keep track. And my boycott hasn't bankrupted them yet, sadly.

As for M&S, it's pretty disappointing seeing women on other social media saying they'd be fine with trans women doing bra fittings for them, and they'd be happy to offer up their teenage daughters as well Hmm.

I get all mine from Peacocks. Just the right sort of coverage for the knickers and nice prints CV at a budget price.

I will never spend another penny in M&S.

Wow. I wouldn’t mind if the mothers offered themselves up instead.

It’s abusive to push their daughters to accept it.

TheStroppyFeminist · 11/08/2025 21:59

Agreed. John lewis have lost thousands from me.

AnnaBalfour · 11/08/2025 22:30

I didn’t know about JL, I spent a fortune there.

Intimissimi is good for underwear/basics.

I sometimes wonder if such women are absolutely clear that transwomen are men.

Countdown2023 · 12/08/2025 14:17

Sounds like pimping out your daughter. In reality none of those women would allow their daughter to have a bra fitting with a TW when push came to shove, especially if their daughter was worried.

Haven't you folk been boycotting these brands for years? Feels like every time a company is insufficiently transphobic there are new calls for boycotts, which ignore the fact that they've been supposedly been boycotted for years for previous transgressions.

Doesn't seem to be harming them - M&S' sales were up 6% in the most recent financial year, John Lewis' were up 3% for the same period.

Countdown2023 · 12/08/2025 15:02

Keep up @PlanetJanette the M&S thing is just starting.

BTW no one is buying Sturgeon’s book either. So boycotting that too.

I have yet to see a man wearing a pantry - this needs investigating! Was he perhaps preparing to cook coq au vin or something? 😉

there’s a reason why Dentons recommended a stealthy, under-the-radar approach. It takes time to unwind, but it will.

I suspect that amongst those who know that transwomen are men, there are a fair number who think that somehow they are all "just like women really", and have never heard of the psychos that apear all too often on the FWR board, with their nappy fetishes, voyeurism, piss-fests, rapes, threats of violence and all the other delightful traits that are almost exclusively male.

Having met a woman with a similar attitude to those on another thread I feel like some very much know and just can’t help themselves in sucking up to men.

Women were accused of ‘weaponising trauma’ and the idea of a teenage girl being confronted with a man in the ladies toilets was mocked and laughed at. This poster said she was female and implied she would offer no backup to the teenage girl.

It’s sad but I guess some women will always prioritise men.

I read the Telegraph article earlier about Sarah Summers and the rape crisis centre - I've been familiar with the case for some time but not the details that were in the article. It really does show how we need our own spaces and our own facilities, and we need to be able to keep men out of them. It doesn't always matter whether the males in question are nice, or polite, or non-threatening. They are male and that is reason enough.

Sainsbury's undies are good value, well the knickers are!
