listening to more or less about abortion, 'people' travelling out of state for abortion care in the US.

woman really seems too hot a potato word to say for some.

ITV just as bad. I accidentally caught the end of
"Loose Doctors" (didn't know there was such a thing, I can't bear "Loose Women"!) and it was all about " people with vulvas".

bloodredfeaturewall · 07/08/2025 07:13

maybe I should write a numbers question about the % of 'people' who are women requesting an abortion...

I usually like the programme. the main presenter seems un-squeamish about using the w word.

Oh please do! Let’s start a movement.

Sending in one of the real cases where percentages for women have been misquoted as being for ‘people’ might be a good idea.

I have seen arm’s length bodies with very serious tasks make presentations with phrases such as “people who menstruate” and reading the phrase aloud.

For some, I was unclear whether they had actually calculated the incidence of a condition that affects women by giving the number for the whole adult population or the female adult population. (No questions allowed.)

Think menopause or endometriosis.

Otherwise sensible, admirable people are undermining the public understanding of science and healthcare in service of an ideology.

When did so many organisations adopt this as one of their key missions?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/08/2025 09:46

It's always chilling to see people / organisations who allegedly provide informative / educational content demonstrating that they find the word woman unsayable.

It's also a useful guide to spotting fuckwits in disguise 😆

BundleBoogie · 07/08/2025 11:10

The BBC is an embarrassment.

tartyflette · 07/08/2025 11:19

It is beyond ridiculous to avoid the words woman or women presumably so as not to offend trans men, that is the very small number of women who transition to men or who prefer to not be called women -- we are just presuming they feel like this without any real knowledge of what they would actually like.
After all, they will certainly know that they are women.
It is virtue signalling at best and fucking patronising in any case.

PastIsAnotherCountry · 07/08/2025 17:05

Maybe this is another worthy topic for an audit?
