I wrote to my newly elected Labour MP after the SC ruling asking him how his government were going to support WOMEN’S rights to access SSS, and I finally received this reply yesterday. As you will see, there’s not one mention of the word woman or women. At least he’s clarified that Labour don’t support women.

’Thank you for contacting me about this Supreme Court ruling and transgender rights in our country.

This ruling comes at a time when the discourse – and media commentary – around transgender rights can often be overly simplistic, toxic and politically charged, leading to debates in Parliament and the media that may not accurately reflect the lived experiences of trans people. As responsible politicians, we must understand that this concerns real people's lives, dignity, and fundamental rights. Indeed, Human Rights Watch has expressed concern that this ruling threatens the rights of trans people, and we must not ignore these very real implications.

Recent statistics continue to show concerning levels of hate crime against trans people, with 4,700 hate crimes committed against trans people in the year leading to March 2023, representing an 11% increase on the previous year. While some argue that rising numbers result from better recording of hate crime, I do not believe this accounts for the full scale of the increase. We must make the UK safer for trans people and ensure every victim of hate crime is treated equally.

Following this Supreme Court ruling, it is more important than ever that we focus on supporting trans people through these challenging times. While the decision may provide some legal clarity around single-sex services, campaigners rightly point out that it could lead to discrimination, especially over employment issues. We must ensure that this legal development does not become a license for discrimination or prejudice.

We must also continue supporting the implementation of the Equality Act 2010, ensuring that while legal definitions may be clarified, the fundamental principle of treating all people with respect and dignity remains paramount.

I will continue to advocate for policies that protect trans people from discrimination and ensure that they can access the healthcare, support services, and basic respect that every person deserves.

Alongside colleagues in Parliament, I am engaging with the EHRC to ensure that trans voices are not overlooked or side-lined following this Supreme Court ruling.’

Was it one of the two new Labour ones in the Southend constituencies by any chance?

No it wasn’t.

I'm not so sure. Obviously there are plenty of batshit crazy Labour MPs. But I don't think the party as a whole is where it was, and the ideologues are on the back benches rather than calling the shots as they were a few years ago. Wes Streeting has upheld the Cass Review, and Bridget Philippson has just waved aside 'concerns' expressed by the captured committees and gone ahead and appointed Mary-Ann Stephenson as incoming chair of the EHRC amidst howls of protest about her being a transphobe. It looks to me as though Labour are heading in the right direction, though not yet where they should be.

Those of us in Scotland are going to have a decision to make next spring when we elected the next Holyrood parliament. Let's hope Scottish Labour have established some credibility on women's rights by the time we get there.

I sort of agree, but with replies like this it shows that the whole party are not united on the messaging, I don’t have the option obviously of talking to anyone senior in the party, he’s my only point of contact. Mind you, I’m not sure if I did speak to anyone else I’d believe a word they say on this issue, the whole ‘women aren’t the only ones with a cervix’ and ‘of course women can have a penis’ comments from the likes of Starmer and Lammy are still ringing in my ears!

So a female constituent has contacted her MP about women's rights and that MP has ignored her question.

Isn't that direct sex discrimination?

Also how many 'trans' constituents are there for that MP? My council estimates there about 18 trans people in the city, there are 3 MPs.

Assuming similar where you are OP that's 6 people.

Add to that my labour MP. "It's not like in the Daily Mail", "I have a daughter, I wouldn't let anything bad happen to her" and a none apology with was a carbon copy of Russel Moyle's none apology - apparently it's a subject he feels very passionate about. I can only assume he doesn't mean women's rights in this case.
He has lost mine and my husband's vote.

It really pissed me off when I read it, absolutely unbelievable.

It really was a ‘f&ck you to women and girls’. And if they were a female MP, it was also a quisling ‘see men, I’m a good support human for the men’. Disturbing to see such disdain for the rights of women and girls.

Many years ago I had a lovely but no-nonsense English teacher who, if you started to fill your essay with meaningless words, would get a biro and write "WAFFLE" in big letters in the margin.

I always think of this when I see politicians' replies on this topic.

SinnerBoy · 06/08/2025 22:06

Blimey. 4,700 hate crimes against transw this year, eh?

Quick! Call the crash team and air ambulance! Frilly Dilly Glitter-Lily got side eyed on the bus!!!! The evil perp was almost five foot, about 7 stone and must have been 90! Where's the armed response unit?!?!!

If you wanted to play trans bingo with his (non) reply to you, you'd pretty much have a full house I think.

I'm not convinced there's any point at all in contacting MPs about this, and maybe not about anything actually. They seem to have so little sway, and I won't say power because that's obviously not theirs to hold. It seems to be civil servants who hold all the cards and threaten to demonstrate and strike if things don't go their way. The Blob.

TRAs are contacting every elected official they can think of to protest the SC ruling. I disagree with you on it being pointless to write and complain. I think it is essential for women to do so because if we do not, then these MPs will use women’s lack of action against women. They will say “well we never hear from women complaining” so women must not care about this issue.

The problem, how we got to this point, is because we women let it happen by not protesting and fighting for our rights, mostly because we are socialized to be kind and turn the other cheek or we don’t want to be called bigots. But we now know that “trans rights” is a men’s movement, and we know these TIMs are aggressive, angry, and will use any weapon in their arsenal to erase our rights. What we need to do is take a page from the trans playbook, and act just like these aggressive angry entitled males, and use their playbook against them.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/08/2025 16:52

Write back saying he must have replied to the wrong constituent as you're query wasn't about trans rights, it was about women's rights.

4,700 hate crimes against trans people is supposed to be shocking?!

Lets compare to women and look at the murder and DV statistics against women in the UK. In 2024, over 2.3 million women aged 16 and over experienced domestic violence. Over 150 women were murdered and over 90% of their perpetrators were men. So, why am I supposed to care more about 4,700 hate crimes against trans people, noticed these trans persons were not murdered, they just experience a hate crime (which could mean anything from misgendering or challenging a male in the toilets to getting beat up). While I feel compassion for them most definitely, they are nowhere near as marginalized and victimized as actual women. It’s insane that MPs, the government, NHS, do not see or care about these very clear facts and proof that women must have SSSS.

In the US VAWG is even more prevalent (although the overall population is more than 4.5 times that of the UK). In 2022, over 2,300 women were murdered, 9/10 were murdered by their male partners (similar to the UK). In that same period, roughly 35 trans persons were murdered (many due in part to being sex workers). To further break it down, if trans persons were 1% of the population (and I am over estimating that percentage), there are 16 million trans identifying people in the US. And those 35 deaths are roughly .000002% of the trans population. I’m sorry but I don’t see how clearer we must be that women’s sex based rights are vital to our safety, privacy and dignity.

StressedLP1 · 08/08/2025 18:59

I’m pretty sure that’s my MP too OP.

northstars · 09/08/2025 04:37

Is this Liam Conlon by any chance? I have written to him about this in the past and got no response.

It is so fucking depressing that MPs are still spouting this shit even in the light of everything that has happened.
