Multiple five-year-old children accepted as patients to Belfast Trust's transgender service

Children as young as five have been accepted as patients of Northern Ireland's specialist transgender health service, the News Letter can reveal.
The news comes after it was revealed last week that health minister Mike Nesbitt has committed extra funding for trans patients.

The figures were obtained via a Freedom of Information request to the Belfast health trust, which runs the Province’s trans services.

When my daughter started saying she was Trans I took her to a Psychologist as after a few years I was out of my depth and we both needed help to deal with the situation.
I'd hoped that she would get the therapy and support to overcome all the underlying issues and to buy time and space. I'd made it clear that I didn't believe my daughter was Trans and I wouldn't allow hormones or surgery. Unfortunately, the psychologist, unbeknown to me, put my daughter in touch with a Trans Charity (we live in Germany) which just reinforced everything that my daughter was thinking.
Before I realised it, she was so far down the rabbit hole and turning 18, that I had no say in it anymore.
The system, politics etc, is rigged up to send kids down the Trans route, rather than say, "Look, most teenagers have some sort of body dysphoria" and help them to love themselves for what they are.
I was even hauled in by the psychologist and told I had to accept my child was now a boy!
This movement prays on children who have trouble fitting in, have trouble making friends because they provide a community to belong to, which exactly what the children are craving for.
I believe this money would be better spend investing in a health system that supports children through this phase and (I believe in most cases) to a stage where they realise it was just a phase or they are gay or they are on the autistic or ADS spectrum.
I would recommend that noone under the age of 26 even be allowed to take any sort of sex changing hormone therapy, let alone surgery.

If the NHS, the government, the media and schools have all been telling parents that children can be 'born in the wrong body' then it's inevitable some will believe them. For a variety of reasons.

So sorry you’ve been through this @MyTeaParty and what that therapist has done to you and your daughter is truly evil.

I hope sanity will return for all of the people enmeshed in this.

Northern Ireland is a place where some people still hold extremely strong religious beliefs, verging on the fundamentalist sometimes. Maybe these parents thought they'd rather trans their child than accept them as gender-non conforming and potentially gay. Whatever their reasoning, though, it's child abuse.

NI born & bred here - can assure you that any of these ultra religious types would definitely not rather have (or entertain) a trans child.
