I've just seen this fabulous picture of Connie Shaw at Trans Pride in London on Saturday, holding up a flag while Sarah Jane Baker - he who cut off and ate his own balls - shouts at her through a megaphone.

The picture says it all, really.

It’s interesting how the gender critical movement has swung from a second-wave, leftist movement to almost entirely neoconservative- or at least it seems like the main figures are. This lady has argued for women staying at home with kids rather than going to work etc- not really a win for feminism in the second wave understanding. None of the lesbian separatism that used to be common either.
im very much not gender critical but have followed this (initially niche!) debate for years and it’s interesting how the movement has grown and developed… I wonder if people ever feel like it’s not great to align with the conservative right on this issue or whether it’s better for giving the movement more traction. X

Did she do this all on her own accord or did a gender critical parent put her up to it?

Give over Chris, is that really the best criticism you've got? Grin

Ah, the old "TERFs are right wing" trope Hmm

Like all movements, there's a variety of views - it's not a hive mind. Some are conservative, but a lot of GC women - me included - would say that they're actually fairly left wing. But we didn't leave the Left, the Left left us when it took up gender woo nonsense and threw women and their rights under the bus.

ah the usual bingo tropes

biological reality is just that reality - I'm completely left wing and it infuriates me that so many ppl on the left refuse to accept the reality that men are not women

but that's not my fault - they'll learn or they won't

gender critical means critical of gender stereotypes so I assume if you're not GC you believe that performing stereotypical female behaviours and presenting in stereotypical female clothes/hair/make up is all that's required to be a woman

@PandorasMailbox

the truth is all banners from either side that show hateful sentiments are unacceptable (even the one she showed) and are beneath all civilised people.

You are right people should be civilised and respect that sex based rights matter.
The banners from the ideological non-realist group threatening harm to realists are the hateful ones.
Hers is a joke banner based on the comments from some non-realists that there's too many realists here.

Maybe a trope, just what I’ve noticed from outside, optics of the movement are right wing now but I do think it’s part of increased conservatism in general- I’m pro free speech so conservative isn’t a dirty word for me, just an observation, I don’t hear much from the second wave school of thought anymore (my bread and butter as a uni student lol)

that said, if gender critical is really critical of gender stereotypes then why the support for pro conservative figureheads like this lady who thinks women should be mothers and not work…

im not GC in the sense that no, I’m not particularly critical of gender stereotypes, harmful ones yes but we all live with stereotypes to some degree

Have you got a link for that? All I can find about her is about her views that men are not women.

I wonder if people ever feel like it’s not great to align with the conservative right on this issue or whether it’s better for giving the movement more traction.

Are you saying that a common belief that people can't change sex means that we're 'aligning with the conservative right'?

If that's true, then it means that if we didn't want to 'align with the conservative right' we'd have to hold a totally irrational belief that people can change sex.

OldCrone · 30/07/2025 12:56

You obviously know her quite well as I can't find anything about this online.

But do you understand that you can agree with someone on one issue and disagree on another?

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 30/07/2025 13:04

Lots of images of shouty men putting women ‘in their places’. And the usual selection of intimidating placards against women.

You would have thought by now that some TRAs would have cottoned on that aggression isn’t winning them any friends. I am hoping that these images will find their way in front on CEOs etc and they will start to recognise that this is not a good look.

Dont give me that bollocks! Actually the Left ‘left’ us behind and actually I am bloody cross about it. Women’s rights were considered a pain in the arse as we kept pushing for things such as equal pay and maternity rights. The sort of things that the Left don’t think really matter.

Labour’s Women conference? Cancelled because of men! It’s always got to be about men and not us. I am bloody fuming. Don’t give me any of this second wave shit. It’s men who have fucked this all up.
