Growth of misogyny

Claire Knight was murdered in an unprovoked random sex attack by a young man.. Her son and sister say no one seems to care. The court was full of friends and family but the press bench was empty.

They tell their tragic story here: www.thetimes.com/uk/crime/article/claire-knights-murder-interview-qwlvr3kvw

"...the crimist David Wilson is certain that “overkill”, when the force used to control and overpower a victim is far greater than what was needed to do so, has hugely increased.
“The offence of upskirting will have been part of a very evolved and profound fantasy that he will have about women,” he says. “Those fantasies are about power, control and entitlement. And there’s a lot of anger amongst the men who behave this way.”

Wilson, 68, rarely saw the phenomenon when he began his career decades ago. “Now, it’s relatively common,” he says. “What has changed is the mainstreaming of misogyny. A lot of young men are influenced by incel culture, the toxic manosphere, the sense of entitlement that women should be available to them, that they should take what is naturally theirs — to overpower and have sex with them.”

Which phenomenon does he mean? Upskirting, or overkill?

Thanks for posting OP

Sorry, I should have given some background. The killer started with upskirting and escalated to rape and murder. It's in the article.

Gisele Pelicot's husband came to police attention after he was caught upskirting. When they examined his hard drive they came on a torrent of rape videos, leading to the horrific historic trial

It's tragic that another woman has to die for the sexual fantasies of another sick man. The lesser sexual offences seem to lead too many men on to more serious acts but it's also the other end of the scale - Pelicot was so immersed in his sexual fantasies that even his horrific acts weren't enough, he was still out peeping on woman.

Prominent transphobe Lawrence Fox was recently arrested for sharing material that was obtained by doing this, wasn't he?

Thanks, I did click through but it's paywalled.

Its pretty clear that any crime that involves non consensual sex.offences should be treated as a red flag - see Couzens' indecent exposure, too.

What's galling, though, is that just as it becomes ever clearer that these si called low level sex offences should be treated as potential warnings of worse offending, courts seems to be increasingly inclined to let people off with minimal sentencing if any.

If there was one thing that police must find dispiriting it's the sentencing, I'd imagine.

This poor poor woman and her family. The terror she must have felt and no chance to fight against this younger strong man. It’s telling that no press attended. A woman being raped and brutally murdered is not news. My god this world is depressing.

Misogyny is rising and is aided and abetted by hand maidens who sanctimoniously lecture anyone who dares to question that a 6 foot ex rugby playing man is exactly the same as a short petite woman. Though I suppose that’s it’s always been thus throughout time in terms of how women participate willingly in the subjugation of other women.

It's a dreadful story - I feel so sorry for her son and sister. And all the useful idiots campaigning for the removal of the gateway crimes to sex offending (voyeurism and indecent exposure) - contribute to minimising the seriousness of VAWG. I note this comment in the article from a criminologist:

"A lot of young men are influenced by incel culture, the toxic manosphere, the sense of entitlement that women should be available to them, that they should take what is naturally theirs — to overpower and have sex with them.”

We see this played out all over the place - even on occasions on here.

I'm glad that his sentence was increased after an appeal by the Prosecution and he's got an additional 6 years. A truly terrible and terrifying story.

It is, utterly heartbreaking. And especially that it is hardly reported.
