BBC presenter launches new trans visibility campaign

Dr Ronx Ikharia’s ‘Safe With Me’ initiative invites allies to wear a yellow badge with bold black text, signalling to trans+ individuals that they are safe to approach, especially when using public toilets or navigating other gendered spaces.

Launched by Dr Ronx – a Black, non-binary, transmasculine emergency doctor and BBC presenter – the campaign responds to the Suprememe Court's judgment that ‘sex’ in the Equality Act refers strictly to biological sex, a decision that campaigners say has heightened fear within trans+ communities.

Dr Ronx said: “I have often been kicked out of toilets because people don’t know where to place me. But when I’m with someone, it happens less.

“This badge is about making allyship visible. It’s non-confrontational. It’s a signal to a trans+ person that they can come up to you and feel safe doing so.”

Dr Ronx is best known for presenting on the BBC’s Operation Ouch! and The Unshockable Dr Ronx, where they combine medical expertise with youth-focused storytelling.

Off-screen, the Hackney-native works on the frontline at Homerton Hospital while strongly advocating for inclusive healthcare and increasing representation for marginalised young people.

If Dr Ronx is actually female, then

Dr Ronx said: “I have often been kicked out of toilets because people don’t know where to place me. But when I’m with someone, it happens less.

... is likely a load of nonsense. Many of us atypically-presenting women have been challenged in the women's toilets because we don't fit a feminine stereotype, but as soon as we respond politely to our challenger she recognises that we are female and accepts us.

Has Dr Ronx actually been kicked out, or has she merely been challenged and therefore taken offence? Has she responded with consideration or aggressively. Quite reasonable to be kicked out if you respond aggressively to other users.

If Dr Ronx is actually female, and has not been challenged when using women's toilets with another woman, that's likely to be because, in interacting with that women, it was clear that she is also a woman. Just as interacting with my female challenger made it clear to her that I was also female, despite my appearance.

Snap JellySaurus funny how we spotted the same cultural reference.

Odd cholce of background when TRAs already have a brand colour scheme which is on flags and other saleable items already.

Double odd that a medical doctor would pick the brand colour of toxic waste.

“Non-binary trans-masculine…” …? Ok then …

So a woman then? 🤦‍♀️

MagpiePi · 24/07/2025 08:07

Dr Ronx said: “I have often been kicked out of toilets because people don’t know where to place me."

So she identifies herself with some confusing word salad (non-binary but also transmasculine 🤔) and is then offended if she is momentarily mistaken for a man in the women's toilets. Surely she should be pleased that she's fooled someone with her appearance? Or should she use gender neutral toilets? But then I suppose there wouldn't be a chance of being offended if she did that.

I think there would be well publicised evidence if she has been kicked out of toilets.

"This badge makes me safe to take you into the toilet with me... shall I take your hand?"

Do these people not have even a basic understanding of safeguarding?

JFC these people are idiots! The medical profession is simply covering itself in glory this week isn’t it?

Lins77 · 24/07/2025 08:10

I look forward to finding out how many of these yellow badges I see out and about. My guess is none.

TheWatersofMarch · 24/07/2025 08:12

@DorothyWainwrightdont pathologise people with a different view to yours as “poorly”. You’ve never met the person and aren’t her Dr. Respond with argument and criticism.

TheWatersofMarch · 24/07/2025 08:17

I’ve never kicked anyone out of a toilet, I’ve never seen anyone being kicked out of a toilet, no one I know has ever seen anyone being kicked out of a toilet. I’m very surprised that this has happened “often” to this person who at a glance is clearly of the female sex.

DorothyWainwright · 24/07/2025 08:27

IIRC Dr Ronx had a mastectomy a few years ago. I'm sure it was on their insta at the time.

[...] Dr Ronx – a Black, non-binary, transmasculine emergency doctor and BBC presenter [...]

What does this mean? Anyone here that can speak stupid and can translate this to me?

It means a woman who doesn't want to be seen as a woman and who wears masculine clothes. But doesn't want to be seen as a man either, hence transmasculine not transman. So a 'person' who looks masculine.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 24/07/2025 08:29

From a personal safety perspective it seems like a terrible idea to encourage vulnerable and sexually confused individuals to follow a stranger into a public toilet because the stranger is wearing a badge that signals that they are willing to disregard social boundaries and to break the law.

Safer to visualise these labels as reg flags instead of yellow badges!

2021x · 24/07/2025 08:31

The only place you will see these badges will be in areas where people are already OK with men in womens toilets as a way of ingratiating into a certain community.

TimeForTeaAndToast · 24/07/2025 07:39

She's what we used to call a butch woman.

Edited

I think she also had her breasts removed for ideological, non medical reasons.

Not the sort of doctor or tv presenter I want anywhere near my children.

myplace · 24/07/2025 08:34

Also, yellow badges kind of mark out a sucker. There will be some people who spot that.

notevencharging · 24/07/2025 08:36

Yawn 🥱 doesn’t she/him/them realise the wheels are falling off the trans bandwagon and she’s a bit late to try and be relevant?

Violetparis · 24/07/2025 08:37

Utter stupidity, it's a safeguarding nightmare promoted by a BBC children's presenter. I despair at the lack of thought and foresight.

Violetparis · 24/07/2025 08:39

This will be picked up by the anti BBC media and rightly so.

Brainworm · 24/07/2025 08:43

Each and every time anyone talks about ‘safety’ in this context, questions need to be asked about what dangers are faced.

I doubt she has been ‘kicked out’ of any SSS. She may have been questioned as to whether she should be there. It’s highly unlikely that, having been questioned, she has been asked to leave - because you can tell she’s female when she talks. Even if these things happen, they are not dangerous - more like unpleasant and/or upsetting.

What makes someone ‘unsafe’ in her eyes? Probably someone who won’t validate or affirm her gender identity. The quality of her life, and those she shares her worldview with, would improve if she stopped regarding non violent, polite people who believe sex matters as dangerous.

I look forward to finding out how many of these yellow badges I see out and about. My guess is none.

Well £10,000 buys a lot of badges and I assume there will be pressure at the BBC to show them.

NeverOneBiscuit · 24/07/2025 09:06

To misquote the film ‘We’re going to need a bigger lapel’

404PageNotFound · 24/07/2025 09:12

Another way of enforcing virtue signalling - don't wear the badge and out yourself as a Terf!

Another way of enforcing virtue signalling - don't wear the badge and out yourself as a Terf!

Can I wear one that says "Leave me alone" instead?

lechiffre55 · 24/07/2025 09:17

Dr Ronx Ikharia’s ‘Safe With Me’ initiative invites allies to wear a yellow badge with bold black text, signalling to trans+ individuals that they are safe to approach, especially when using public toilets or navigating other gendered spaces. everyone that they are a virtuous individual who is special and not at all a narcissist trying to earn social credit by bullying others who think differently.
In other totally unrelated news, The Society of Lawyers is upbeat that their profession is on track to make a ton more money from virtuous narcissists bullying untermensch TERFs out of workplaces. The additonal effect of making even money when the police get involved after the sexual predation behaviour of virtuous narcissists comes to light is just icing on the cake.
A spokeman for The Society of Lawers explained that "That these people generate so many different legal cases, and there's at least two teams of lawyers in every case, means we are eternally grateful for their contributions. They are our very best revenue generators most valuable valued clients, and we appreciate all that they do for our profession. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to the three day Sandie Peggie celebratory banquet. I've never eaten so much rich food and drink in my life on other people's money as during these heady days of Gagrin and Sputnik self identification and virtuous useful idiots.

lechiffre55 · 24/07/2025 09:18

@IwantToRetire fixed it for you ^

LeftieRightsHoarder · 24/07/2025 09:22

Surely most women would run a mile from a stranger telling us we’re safe with them? And would make sure their children know to do the same? You can almost see the carefully sheathed claws. So the badge could be a useful sign of who not to trust!
