I have only read the headline and first part as it is behind a pay wall. I am walking and bad at multitasking so can't do the archive link BUT, this sounds promising.

Anyone but Daniel Radcliffe.”
🤣🤣🤣

Good for him. He’s very clear that he agrees with JKR. A man of principle.

RumNotRun · 21/06/2025 08:51

Thanks @IDareSay

This morning I was looking at the Pinc List on Wales Online which had an unsurprisingly TQ orientated list. I don't think they could have used the word "queer" more times if they tried, so it was refreshing to see something more sensible in the media.

He apologised a couple of years ago for his pro TRA stance.

I love John Boyne. How many people have publicly apologised to Graham Linehan. Actually I've just finished his hilarious novel, The Echo Chamber , all about the perils of social media. And I've had a reading block since COVID. So thanks for that John.

SueSuddio · 21/06/2025 09:51

I love this, thanks John Boyne. Also he had a pint with Kate Bush and with JK Rowling in the past year? Oh my god! Honestly my dream people to meet.

John Boyle is great. The Irish Independent has been publishing articles like this for a while as they have at least one GC journalist. The Irish Times has tentatively started to dip its toe in.

RTE, meanwhile, have announced that €40,000 from its Toy Show appeal will be going to TENI, who promote puberty blockers and binders 🙄

Abhannmor · 21/06/2025 10:15

Oh no @ItsCoolForCats the Toy Show is one of the few Irish institutions every can get behind. Or it was at least. Is nothing sacred.
Kate Bush's mam was Irish , from Waterford iirc. And she sings as Gaeilge on a Chieftains album. She doesn't go all Ed Sheeran about it though. Considering she could pass for a Celtic goddess i mo thuarim.

Derailing a bit to go 😧about RTE donating to TENI.

TENI [Trans Equality Network Ireland] was the organisation that elbowed its way to the front after the resounding success of the marriage equality referendum in Ireland in 2015, showing that equal rights for lesbian and gay people was AOK with the Irish population.
TENI were the vanguard for capitalising on this to make it all about the T - the most marginalised etc etc.
They made themselves out to be THE experts on all aspects of transgenderism, and no parliamentary committee was complete without a TENI rep, or lots of fawning references to their 'expertise' in this area. Even the medical profession deferred to their 'greater knowledge' of trans healthcare needs..

If you've read the Denton's document you'll recognise TENI's strategy and tactics - which worked: the Gender Recognition Act and GRCs were waved through, supported by every party in the Irish parliament at the time.

RTE is funded by public money, and the donations to the Toy Show appeal are all from us, so we have good grounds to object to our money going to TENI.
Which is not a children's charity anyway😡

DENTON’S DOCUMENT – THE GENDER COLLECTION

Rightsraptor · 21/06/2025 12:07

I'm not Irish but isn't the name Toy Show Appeal somewhat misleading if they are bunging a great big wodge of money to TENI?

Is there any rational explanation? <of course there can't be>

Mistovertheriver · 21/06/2025 12:58

@Rightsraptor

The Toy Show Appeal is a charity appeal made during The Late Late Toy Show, which is a Christmas episode of The Late Late Show (an Irish talk show) that showcases toys.

So the appeal happens during The Toy Show. It’s not an appeal for toys. It does say its aim is to support children’s charities.

We work to bring the magic of The Late Late Toy Show to every child in Ireland. By funding essential support, health, well-being, play and creativity, we aim to change children's lives for good...The RTÉ Toy Show Appeal is a designated fund to help a range of children’s charities and causes around Ireland.’

However, in practice, it doesn’t seem to donate to children’s charities exclusively. I know Women’s Aid has received funding this year as has Exchange House, which supports Travellers, and The Crann Centre, which supports people with neuro-physical disabilities. All those charities help children, directly or indirectly, but they help adults too.

Rightsraptor · 21/06/2025 16:41

What I thought was a 'thanks' emoji turns out to be 'agree', so thanks for the explanation.
