This is so terribly sad. Her poor children, aged only 7 and 9. Their mother, Annabel Rook, was a courageous woman. I hope that someone loves and looks after those two children incredibly well, and that they create fulfilling lives for themselves in time and feel proud of their mother.

Pollqueen · 17/06/2025 21:06

Just awful. I hope whoever is resonsible is fully brought to account. RIP Annabel

This is the truth. I was the CEO of one of the largest independent DVA and refuge services in the UK some moons ago.

Not Refuge i might add.

My name and address was available on the Charity Commission website, as I was the company secretary (a normal practice)

My details were in my married name.

I have since moved and no data exits in my married name, i go by my maiden name for all purposes, i am not named on any household bills, and my maiden name is on the land registry.

All because loony tune men have done a number of things including sitting under my front window with a sawn off shot gun.

luckily none of my family were at home.

And all this was way before the current environment for women's rights advocates.

I saw this dreadful story. From the headline I thought it was the sadly predictable woman killed by her partner. Then I read the story. Utterly heartbreaking.

That is chilling to read. I'm so sorry you and your family were put in such a dangerous position. 💐

This is heartbreaking. A beautiful woman who strived to help others. Thoughts to her heartbroken family xx

@mrshoho Thanks, but it was my vocation and i do not regret a moment of my work and stance, in fact that is why i ended up here.

LaLoba · 17/06/2025 22:15

Fucking hell @Bannedontherun that is terrible. I remember a brief time of optimism when I was younger, that life might be so much better for women and girls , if not in my lifetime, at least soon after. I lost my youthful optimism years back, but this still shocks me.
I hope you have peace now, and thank you for your work.

I'm an academic and have students often up in arms about my views, writing to my head of department, starting petitions etc. I am also director of a very small family company so I'm listed at Companies House.
I found out my old address was listed when a friend sent me a birthday present, she'd checked the address on the Companies House list!
So now I use my work address for that.
I'm so sorry to hear this happened. Women are so at risk. Luckily for me students rarely carry weapons.

Bannedontherun · 17/06/2025 22:42

@LaLoba I worked in various roles over many years in independent sexual and domestic violence services, i was always hands on and proud to say i was part of a movement of women, who never sought glory, but were movers and shakers, in their own localities.

I, as were other women were seen as trouble makers, we were leaders who gained some traction in public discourse.

But behind our strong front were the souls of thousands of women we represented, alcohol dependent, mental health patients, and women in high office who stood to loose everything if they complained. And also amazing resilient women.

All those women live every day in my mind today and forever.

I cannot and will not ever let go of them, they will be with me until the day i die.

I am a gardener now that is my profession it gives me some peace.

I don't know if I've misread the article but I couldn't see anything that suggested it wasn't her partner? Police have called it a "domestic-related incident".

An awful thing to happen to anyone and she sounds like an incredible woman.

RowsOfFlowers · 18/06/2025 10:51

Wasn’t the man arrested her ex partner, or have I got that wrong? I’m sure I read it in an article somewhere…

I'm not sure but I realised I had made an assumption. It didn't mean it wasn't her partner but her occupation could have put her in the sights of a bunch of violent misogynists. Although just being in the public eye and female will do that.

Ah I see. I made the same assumptions as you and yes I see what you mean.

Igmum · 22/06/2025 17:59

@Bannedontherunthat is terrible. Thank you for all that you have done and gardeners are the most psychologically healthy of all occupations. This news is awful. Men really do hate women taking action.
