Poster saying 'protect trans kids' within a school setting

This makes me feel very uncomfortable as is pushing an ideology that is harmful to children. I'm composing an email to the head of safeguarding but would really appreciate some advice on how I can articulate my concerns clearly. We know that this ideology is harmful to same sex attracted kids and/or those on the autistic spectrum....any advice much appreciated-this is in a large secondary school....

There no such thing as a transkid.

There's gender questioning kids. This language is less loaded and more open to the possibility (likelihood of detransition)

They should use the appropriate terminology which doesn't expose children to any kind of harm.

Harm can also be from cultlike behaviour.

Sex Matters and Transgender Trend did produce some joint guidance, it doesn’t cover the Supreme Court ruling but that wouldn’t be directly relevant to children under 18 in school as they couldn’t have a GRC. https://www.transgendertrend.com/equality-act-boys-and-girls/

Boys and Girls and the Equality Act - Transgender Trend

Boys and Girls & the Equality Act is a clear guide for schools on supporting all pupils equally, including those who identify as transgender.

Well, I think we should absolutely protect “trans kids” from a dangerous ideology that can cause them irreparable physical and psychological harms. But I guess that’s not what the poster was getting at.

ETS. Sorry that wasn’t constructive advice. I seem to be a bit snarky this morning.

I assume there’s some sort of activist on staff.

WitchesofPainswick · 17/06/2025 11:38

I'd just remove it

Me too. But presumably there'll be more where that came from.
I'd be looking at the school policies? Is it a one off via a transactivist adult in which case a quiet word might resolve the issue. Or are there a major issues with girls being forced to undress along with boys in changing rooms, children being gaslit about being in the wrong body, LGBT clubs, flags etc ?
That would determine my response.

Edited

Seems pretty reasonable to me. Said as someone who worked with kids w/disabilities and also with vulnerable teens, in a former life. Mine starts secondary soon and I haven't seen overt use of this stuff but I'm braced for it. Less concerned about my kid being influenced (he's likely to challenge certain ideas, being ND, whole other kettle of crabs) but I don't just care about my kid.

Justme56 · 17/06/2025 11:47

Unless it identifies a specific protection, (that other children don’t also need) it comes across as a political message. Schools are supposed to be politically impartial.

Crouton19 · 17/06/2025 12:45

Protect them from the dodgy doctors, counsellers and surgeons who want to make a quick buck off the distress of kids and teens! Surely that is what the poster means...

Forktrip · 17/06/2025 13:04

I'm going to get into trouble for using all the wrong language, but I don't take issue with protecting trains kids. I take issue with boys being treated as if they are girls, but all children should be protected, and trans (or gender questioning) kids will need more protecting than most.

zanahoria · 17/06/2025 13:53

Protect them from what?

All kids should be protected from discrimination but no ideology should be protected from criticism.

There is an awful lot of ideology and assumptions packed into the phrase 'trans kids'

WarriorN · 17/06/2025 14:17

On top of the above excellent links you could quite kcsie 2024 which mentions gender questioning but not trans as a category. And highlights the caution around it and the Cass review.
