Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Women’s Rights Network Scotland has imploded

Hearing all sorts about things kicking off at WRNS.

Women being accused of ‘security breeches’.

Scores of activist women chucked out with no warning or right to reply.

It seems that the Scotland admins don’t want women talking to each other without permission.

So much for being a ‘membership’ organisation.

Why do so many feminist organisations end up in power trips like this?

The gender fight is hard enough without ‘mean girls’ turning on other women.

Power really does corrupt.

I am all for single sex spaces but some of the anti-trans crap they would post was shocking. A lot of it from Twitter and this was apparently "research". One was a blatant fake story but they took it as gospel as it fed their agenda.
You can surely support sex based rights without constant daily anti-trans material being posted on your group chat? Well not to them..

What do you mean by anti-trans?

Women who believe that you can’t change sex not wanting biological men in single sex spaces?

The chat that WRNS shut down (without consultation) was the Scotland-wide group. Some of those who missed having a national group created a new non-WRNS group. Someone in that group shared the list of members with WRNS admins, who then threw all the new chat group members out of WRNS without due processes being followed. So it seems that WRNS has exploited a data breach of another group - not a good look.

I’ve not read everything yet so this might have been pointed out already. You’ve forgotten to mention the reason WRN Scotland decided to chuck us all out - some internal WRN business was shared in the new group on at least 2 occasions. Not just because we were in another group.

Were you there? No didn't think so. I know what happened, they do too.

As I said, you're making various claims that others are disputing. It's hearsay.

INeedAPensieve · 12/06/2025 19:18

Humans cannot change sex. The WRN chat did state this. Also that sex based rights were worth protecting.

That's not anti trans but perhaps that's why the tras black and white thinking has caused issues in the first place. Stating biological fact is not hateful.

Springwitch · 12/06/2025 19:18

ICanSee · 12/06/2025 19:11

Oh my lord, it seems that one of the admins is not happy either and has changed WRNS X profile.

Oof, I just saw after you said that!!!

I liked being in the Scottish group, it's good to see the bigger picture/chat with people from other parts of Scotland. Splitting it into regional groups without consultation then closing the main group was already annoying a lot of people. To then follow it up with mass expulsion of women just for having the temerity to set up a non-WRN group where they could chat freely is ridiculous.

AliBaliBug · 12/06/2025 19:24

TigerLily40 · 12/06/2025 17:32

I am starting to think so 😂😂 I am just saying what my unfortunate experience was of this group. Within a day, I saw a poor woman being bullied out the group after being targeted by two members on the group chat. That was red flag number one after being told they are open to different opinions. This woman was even subjected to name calling.
The chat then turned to late abortion and a woman who had a late abortion was targeted by a Trump supporter (one of the two who bullied the first woman). This Trump supporter gets to stay in the group. Second red flag.
They use Twitter as resources of information and spread nasty propaganda about trans community. They didn't like it when I pointed out how much fake information is on twitter and it's not classed as research. Third red flag.
I ask for info on surrogacy and try to discuss the two sides with information detailing the pros and cons of surrogacy. They don't realise that there are two sides to the argument. I get berated and then get nasty private messages.
Last red flag and I apparently took the huff and left. No I left this toxic environment.

Edited

I saw this discussion and none of what you’re saying is true. You’re vastly exaggerating. Please stop it.

I just know what my Glasgow friend shared - I'm in an English group.

You seem to forget about that Trump supporter putting up comments and material the day after you advised her about your late term abortion. If anyone is wondering, she was making anti late abortion comments and putting up links to this anti abortion crap. But according to John, she wasn't bullied at all. I had to send a message to the lead about it, yes that seems to be forgotten.

Edited

That didn't happen.
Why are you lying?
You got the huff because no one there agrees with surrogacy, that's it.

ICanSee · 12/06/2025 19:55

Ok. And I’m putting you right. It was the breaches that were the problem, not just that there was another group.

NameyChangey95 · 12/06/2025 21:07

@TigerLily40 You did some good work with the women's march. I'm sorry that your relationship with WRN has ended badly. Not every type of women's group works well for every woman. I genuinely hope that you find one that suits your talents.

TitanicTeflonTartan · 12/06/2025 21:32

I was in the chat too @TigerLily40 I can say there was not constant homophobic or anti trans stuff in it.

There are women who have autistic children who are concerned re indoctrination in schools. There are women who are lesbians and know what a woman is on a dating site or in real life.

What was the internal stuff? At a loss here. You can DM .

MY WRN group is fantastic. We know we disagree within the group about politics, religious beliefs and social issues and yet we manage to be respectful to each other and to not be snowflakes every time someone takes a line that someone else might disagree with or expresses themselves in a manner someone else might not choose. We are there to defend the sex-based rights of women and that involves practical, grass-roots, local activites rather than endless lamenting and navel gazing.

I agree, that's my experience, also

That’s what we thought too. Until it wasn’t.

JohnsShirt · 12/06/2025 22:13

Erm, what good work?
Nagging for screenshots, the thread is still there if you want to check.
It was me that had them, and had Sarah Jane Baker come for me on social media.
She did very little, and is now lying and throwing us all under the bus and I don't appreciate it.

ArealAdultHumanFemale · 12/06/2025 22:36

I find this whole thread very distasteful.
WRN has been a huge force for good.
This washing of maybe just allegedly very slightly dingy laundry in public is very distasteful

Yep, I agree. I'm out

tosharama · 12/06/2025 23:31

The infighting within these groups is tiresome and is why I bowed out a long time ago.

The WRN started as an offshoot of the Scottish Feminist Network. The woman who started the SFN was effectively kicked out by those running the show now. She then started the WRN with Heather Binning, amongst others. I would hazard a guess that the woman who was in the new chat and reported back to the WRN admins is probably the same woman who reported back to the SFN creator when it all kicked off a few years ago.

There was so much bitching and back stabbing at "the top". And a lot of rules to abide by. If your face didn't fit then you were out.

It doesn't surprise me to hear this about the WFN sadly and my previous experiences with some of the women involved in both networks is why I avoid these groups now. Too much drama that some seem to relish.

Groups tend to have these kind of problems. The suggestion that women's groups tend to them more is interesting. I wonder if there's any truth to that? And if so, why that might be.

fromorbit · 13/06/2025 07:04

Women's groups have always fallen into internal feuding. Look at the various factions amongst the suffragettes, and suffragists. Look at any history of second wave or third wave feminism.

Women are human. This means they are going to scramble for status, undermine other people, argue etc.

Just do what always been done. Create a separate group if needed, or resolve it somehow. Just keep moving forward. Because even with a lot of horrible bitching women's rights have still kept advancing.

Don't pretend this discredits anything. Of course there are going to be daft feuds. The thing is however absurd our internal arguments are the TAs are going to be way way worse. They end up arguing over whether obvious horrific predators are "trans" or not.

I am PAYE so I don’t really understand this, excuse my ignorance, but this means WRN is for profit? The directors get paid?

How do they make their money? Through merch?

No. It means the unpaid volunteers running it have legal protection and their homes aren't at risk if activists go after them. It probably also helps in terms of logistics such as hiring venues

Other than one thread on Twitter/X started by a TRA, I can't see anything online about this so-called implosion. Must be a very quiet one, if it's happened.
