Texas laws surge into the spotlight again as cops are exposed for using nationwide surveillance tech, through automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras, to track down a fleeing woman after she was suspected of having an abortion, even being searched for in states where abortion is legal, proving terrifying truth.

I read about this a couple of days ago. The woman’s family reported her because she had a self managed abortion (I assume she got the abortion pill posted to her) and her family were concerned as she had had excessive bleeding and wouldn’t go to hospital or something like that. They reported her and the police used the cameras to track her down for medical treatment, like a welfare check. She hasn’t been arrested or charged for having the abortion. They arrested and jailed a woman for a self managed abortion a few years ago, then dropped the charges and let her go and she sued them. So, I don’t think they’ve done that again this time.

I haven’t watched your YouTube link so don’t know if there has been further info released so the above could be wrong.

As ever, context is all.

Sorry, are you saying that what I’ve said is wrong and the YouTube video is the context? Because I can’t watch the video as can’t have the sound up at the moment! In a public place so that’d be rude without headphone.

The issue of surveillance of women seeking an abortion has been an active discussion going back quite a few years.

Quite the reverse. I was thanking you for providing more context. (rare on MN I know, but it happens 😀).
